Angels dropped the "Of Anaheim" from their name a couple of years ago. They're just the "Los Angeles Angels" now.
And Anaheim still has the Ducks unless they're moving too.

I could see this being a temporary trend, of elite players signing extensions before they hit free agency. Until, or unless, the market corrects itself, even the most upper-tier of free agents are struggling to find homes (J.D. Martinez last year, Manny Machado and Bryce Harper this year), so I wouldn't be surprised if the short-term future of baseball is players signing lucrative extensions before wading into free agency, taking a potential hometown discount versus risking it on the market and coming up short. Which is not the worst thing. 8 years for $260 million is damn good market value and he may be giving up an extra year or two and $40 million but he can also leave after 3 years
The trend of players signing free agent deals with their current teams may seem to be the route to go for the next 2 seasons or so

Man if he really does head elsewhere, Harper is going to need armed security for when he visits Philly.

Scott Boras is playing the hell out of the Giants and Dodgers
And I’ve completely fallen for it too... at this point money doesn’t matter. He cannot go to LA.
The worst part is, I won’t even hate on Bryce for making the choice... I’ll be hating on my own team who could have had Bryce Harper but chose not to... they don’t get him this season will be an absolute trainwreck with record low attendances in AT&T Park.

13 years? Yeesh! I mean he’s only 26 and obviously has incredible talent. But that’s a long f***ing contract.

13 year deal with no opt outs, lol. $330 Million is the number
No opt outs and 13 years for a 26 year old
Well they better hope they get a good 8 years out that deal and live with the final 5 years being potentially subpar

Also I would assume this contract is a little front loaded due to the age but most likely it's evenly distributed

If the Phillies win a World Series within the next 5 years, it's a win. But I think this deal is terrible for both the player and the team.
Player - Harper is 26 years old. No offense to Philadelphia, but this is the last city I'd want to spend a good chunk of my life in. Its different than spending 10 in San Diego like Machado did.
Team - Harper isn't the best outfielder, but like I said, if they win it all within 5 years, great but the back half of the contract will be terrible.

Me this offseason: BASEBALL'S SALARY STRUCTURE AND FREE AGENCY IS BROKEN
Me, also this offseason: MANNY MACHADO AND BRYCE HARPER SIGNED FOR A COMBINED $630 MILLION, BASEBALL SALARIES NEED TO BE REINED IN.

Scott Boras called Philly's bluff and they gave in. Big time. I think Boras took an L on this one. The AAV is lower than Machado and Arenados, but he locked in 3 more years. It's weird. Something must have happened behind the scenes for Bryce to agree to a full no trade clause and no opt outs.

I hope Phillies regret eatting this one big time and we all learn like the Orioles that long contracts for big names with big money is just dumb

And there goes all the optimism I had for the Mets. Short term? Phillies are the team to beat in NL East followed by Atlanta
