300 million flippin' dollars? It's a stupid backwards society we live in. Teachers go on strike because they are criminally underpaid. Cops, firemen, and others who literally put their lives on the line live paycheck to paycheck. Government workers can get f***ed over if politicians shut it down. People are drowning in student loan debt. But if you can catch and/or hit a ball, you can be set for life in your mid-twenties. I love sports, but when you step back and look at it, it is seriously f***ing sickening. Especially if you have a situation like A-Rod who went to the Rangers, didn't win jack shit, but had a record contract. Which sadly, is nothing compared to what these guys will make. For playing a god damn game that everybody plays for fun and for free. Honestly, I can't hate on anybody who has god given abilities to make millions of dollars playing a game at a high level that few others can do
I get where you coming from tho

That's the business. Baseball sells expensive tickets up to 100+ games a year (including ST +playoffs), parking, concessions cut, national TV rights deals, local TV rights deals, sponsorship money, revenue sharing, licensing deals, internet streaming money, and tons of merchandise money. There's a weird stance where people don't hate the owners for making their money, but they do players. If anyone should be questioned fofor how much they make, it should be Goodell. He sells 0 tickets, turned many fans off, and took over an industry giant on autopilot. He's making more than Machado to routinely make the wrong decision.

So Bryce and not Manny is gonna GET DA MONEY from Philly.
As for the athletes making this much, team owners make billions off that talent. They deserve as much of that pie as possible. Outside of extremely rare circumstances I'm always going to side with the players over owners.

I hated they way they dragged this out but the results speak for themselves and they got their worth
The market needs to be re-corrected because the top guys are waiting longer for the right deal while the 2nd and 3rd tier guys if they don't hop on deals early they are f***ed
Def expect that in the next labor talks something to fix this because this is like 4 years running of offseason in baseball being subpar

The Yanks and Aaron Hicks have agreed to a 7yr/$70m extension. They got this guy for John Ryan Murphy. If anyone doesn't remember just who the hell John Ryan Murphy is? Exactly.

Just seeing a story in the Long Beach Post about the possibility of the Angels leaving Anaheim for Long Beach in a year’s time. Not sure how I feel about this, given the Angels have been in Anaheim forever, not sure how Long Beach feels about a new stadium in their waterfront and what this means for market share with the Dodgers. And how does Art Torres benefit? lbpost.com/news/angels-anaheim-long-beach-stadium/

At least Long Beach is technically closer to Los Angeles proper than Anaheim?

With all due respect to the fine people of that city, Anaheim is basically a 50-square-mile parking lot. I'm not saying the Angels should move, I'm just pointing out that I've never seen a more sterile, lifeless neighborhood than the one immediately surrounding Angel Stadium.

Rockies and Arenado finalizing an 8 year/$255 million contract. I'm happy to see this for two reasons: a team is paying big money to sign their best player long term, and instead of testing the market to get more money, he's taking it, which is smart.
Edit: Also, Rendon just got more expensive for my Nats.

Yes, the stretch of odee time where the Yanks were loaded with catchers and all their backup catchers had a good stretch of time and got traded

I could see this being a temporary trend, of elite players signing extensions before they hit free agency. Until, or unless, the market corrects itself, even the most upper-tier of free agents are struggling to find homes (J.D. Martinez last year, Manny Machado and Bryce Harper this year), so I wouldn't be surprised if the short-term future of baseball is players signing lucrative extensions before wading into free agency, taking a potential hometown discount versus risking it on the market and coming up short.

At least Long Beach is technically closer to Los Angeles proper than Anaheim? It is, but they have only been the LA Angels one year of their existence. California Angels until about two decades ago they became the Anaheim Angels. Then owner Art Torres decided he wanted to complete with the Dodgers, so LA Angels. Until the lessee of Angel Staduim reminded Art the team had to be called Anaheim under the terms of the lease. So... Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim was the compromise. But now, Art can move the team to Long Beach, get a new ballpark and compete with LA! He wins! Anaheim loses their last sports team and Long Beach gets stuck with the check.
