Manny Machado getting 10 years and $300 million from one of his long-rumored suitors makes me wonder why the hell we had to wait until the middle of February for this.

Supposedly White Sox had the highest offer or so they thought but they "couldn't" reach $300 million. Him and Bryce waited for the $300 million dollar contracts tho Bryce if you believe the rumors has had those type of deals all offseason
Bryce will now sign for money than Machado but now it's whether he will do 10 or more years

Phillies were basically out on Machado the second they signed Segura and retained Franco. I don't think those were bad moves, but we still desperately need to sign Bryce and get the deal done.
Then maybe use what we got left to get Dallas and or Kimbrel and really make a splash this season.
But ultimately they need to close the deal and get Bryce or this city will be bitter for AWHILE, so they better get it done...

Allegedly Harper's offer from the Nats included $100 million in deferred money. I think Boras/Harper are waiting for a team, any team other than Philly to get close to Philly's offer or exceed it. I really do think Bryce views Philly as the last resort.

I really do think Bryce views Philly as the last resort. White Sox seem not willing to go over $300 million and Harper has been said to turn down multiple $300 million dollar deals this year
He's going to get over $300 million and Philly is willing to spend. I'm assuming if Philly gets him then they sign someone else behind them
People are throwing out the Padres to get Bryce but idk if they got another $300 million in them to do so

In other news, my Pirates are just...ugh.
Josh Harrison will join Jordy Mercer in Detroit. Polanco is still rehabbing an injury he got from doing a bullshit slide. Not to mention, he seems to have developed the baseball I.Q. of a T-baller.
The pitching could be good, but Taillon hasn't wowed anybody, and Musgrove is hot and cold. Archer seems determined to be an ace again, which is great.
I wouldn't have given up Austin Meadows for Archer though. Even Glasnow was decent coming out of the bullpen. But I also see Cervelli possibly shipped off somewhere this season, since he was out there last year as trade bait.
But hey, they were over .500 last year. Win a couple close games, and they could be a fun team. They were absolutely on fire for a while in July, but then decided to take August off.

With all these huge contracts flying around, what are the chances of a lockout happening before 2030?

300 million flippin' dollars? It's a stupid backwards society we live in. Teachers go on strike because they are criminally underpaid. Cops, firemen, and others who literally put their lives on the line live paycheck to paycheck. Government workers can get f***ed over if politicians shut it down. People are drowning in student loan debt. But if you can catch and/or hit a ball, you can be set for life in your mid-twenties. I love sports, but when you step back and look at it, it is seriously f***ing sickening. Especially if you have a situation like A-Rod who went to the Rangers, didn't win jack shit, but had a record contract. Which sadly, is nothing compared to what these guys will make. For playing a god damn game that everybody plays for fun and for free.

Jose Iglesias is stuck with a minor league deal with the Reds. Nah, that's f***ed up. How someone of his talent is stuck with a minor league deal
Marwin Gonzales signs a 3 year deal with the Twins

Apparently Phillies’ owner plane is in Vegas. Where Bryce Harper lives.

With all these huge contracts flying around, what are the chances of a lockout happening before 2030? Depends on how this free agency and next year's free agency goes. I believe the currently CBA ends in 2 years. CBA ends after 2021 season. The MLBPA only cares about older players. The real issue is not free agency. Teams giving less money and years to older players is common sense. The real problem is players are making next to nothing in the minors and then are criminally underpaid for six years in the Majors before they can test free agency. Hopefully MLB addresses the real issue and not “these players in their 30’s are not getting deals so let’s strike”. If those same players were getting what they deserved in their 20’s, then it wouldn’t be an issue at all.

Bryce and Phillies expected to finalize 10 year deal on Monday Money deferred, team options the last 3 years I would bet given this off-season. Owners like the guy short-arming the check on a group lunch.

Bryce is getting his full money and if anything I assume the value of the contract has a decent value based upon incentives ala A-Rod
If he signs a 10 year and $320 million dollar than I expect something like the full total could be $350 depending on milestones he hits
