Biggest gripe I have about all of this is that most of the media pegged Harper to be a future Yankee before he even took his first at bat as a Nat. He's a generational talent, or maybe to be more specific, had generational talent hype. He finally gets to free agency, after everything that's been said about the kid, both good and bad, and he decides to sign with the Philadelphia Phillies if the rumors are true. That boggles my mind. Yeah, Philly is a major market but they will eat this kid alive. The DC sports media treats the players with kid gloves. Harper once made a comment about it doesn't matter what his batting average is as long as he hits 40 homers, you think that's going to go over well in Philly with a $300 million commitment?

He will learn
Same way Machado did when he said he's not "Johnny Hustle" during the World Series

It doesn't matter what he hits, or how many HRs, as long as his OBP is amazing and Hoskins hits 40 HRs. /sept
I still think Atlanta is better.

Padres been in it with a lot of people all offseason tho so it makes sense
Won't be surprised if they go back after Kimbrel and bring him back and make that trade for Strowman

Count me as a big fan of the San Diego Padres' quadrennial effort to give a s**t. Four years ago, it was an off-season spent acquiring James Shields, Wil Myers, Matt Kemp, Justin Upton, Will Middlebrooks, and Derek Norris. This year, it's throwing bags of money at Manny Machado.
But seriously, if the Padres stay the course and don't sell off their assets again over the course of the next three years, they could be a formidable force in the future. They're adding Machado to a team that has a ton of Major League-ready talent including infielder Fernando Tatis Jr., catcher Francisco Mejia, and pitchers Mackenzie Gore, Adrian Morejon, Cal Quantrill, and Anderson Espinoza.

Tim Brown of Yahoo Sports says there's an opt out after 5 years.

He'd still be 30-31 when he can get another decent contract for 4 or 5 years but yeah this is crazy. Will see how Padres actually run this

Padres infield could be deadly in a couple of years: 1B-Eric Hosmer 2B-Luis Urias SS-Manny Machado 3B-Fernando Tatis Jr.
He's not gonna win right away but it's a much bettet situation than Baltimore, who I cant see winning anytime in perhaps even the next decade.

Yea, you're betting on the future which is why I thought he could potentially go to the White Sox

Lost in all the Machado talk is that former Dodgers pitcher and New Jersey's own Don Newcombe died today at the age of 92. Newcombe was one of the first ever black pitchers in the majors and also the only pitcher to have career awards for Rookie of the Year, Cy Young, and MVP until Justin Verlander achieved it.
