With the Fox money they can probably afford to get every wrestlers in the World on their payroll. Hell most of the guys they have will probably never on TV. That is why we will probably see never any big releases.
Unless it's Val Venis.

Sucks for the wrestlers obviously but I always enjoyed seeing who would get canned. It was like a yearly tradition.

It used to be so exciting, to see if Funaki or JTG would survive. I wonder who has those pictures of Vince now

Yeah, it seems you have to be a complete idiot to get released these days. And to show how much times have changed, when Cass finally commented on it he said that he would have fired him too.

My understanding is it came down to three things.
1. WWE is rolling in more money than at any time in their existence so its not like they need to worry as much about cuttting costs
2. They are on a drive to be a genuine monopoly and are simply hoarding as much talent as possible so no one else will have it *cougWCWcough*
3. Linda got involved in politics, and probably Steph eventually, and they want WWE to be seen as a job creating machine for good political PR, therefore mass releases on a regular basis would not feed that image.

It will be interesting to see how much of that acquired talent they'll be able to keep when renewals and renegotiations come around. WWE may be flush with investment cash at the moment, but will that translate into the kinds of contracts that will keep their top stars there to suck up whatever bad booking the creative team and Vince may have for them. Money is not the only motivator in an endeavour like this.

Add the number of TV hours and network content that needs filling, need more people on the roster.

And despite that, we still get Bobby Lashley wrestling Finn Balor for a month, and a Random Woman teams up with Bayley and Sasha to wrestle The Riott Squad every week.
