There's always that one asshole. Bill Maher being a stupid insensitive douchebag? Color me shocked! This has literally never happened before. It reminded me of when Andy Rooney complained about people mourning the death of Kurt Cobain. There are always jerks who don't understand... they never will. They do it for attention or whatever reason. It's up to those who remember him to carry on his legacy.

I dunno about you but I would sooner sit and chat somebody who still reads books with pictures then somebody like Bill Maher.

Bill Maher is a miserable douchebag who is sometimes funny, but mostly a miserable douchebag anymore. I watched his latest standup special and instead of the witty, insightful political humor he used to be known for, it was a bunch of whining and ranting about how much he hates young people with different sensibilities from him and all but blamed them for the current state of everything wrong with the country. It was unwatchable.
He's become a living baby boomer Facebook rant about millennials.

I loved his show "Who Wants to be a Superhero", I'd even argue it was the only good reality show as it was about actually being a good person. Also, I found this online recently:

What animated shows has Stan appeared in? I know he had a recurring character as the janitor in Ultimate Spider-Man, and the 1994 series ended with him being the focal point of the episode, and of course there was his cameo in Teen Titans Go to the Movies, any other notable appearances?

Narrated: Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends, the animated Incredible Hulk from the same time period, the Pryde of the X-Men pilot, and an episode of American Dad Appeared as a cartoon version of himself: Muppet Babies ("Comic Capers" episode), two eps of the '94 Fantastic Four show, the '98 Fox channel Spider-Man show (one ep), Spectacular Spider-Man (one ep), his own Mighty 7 animated film, Voiced characters other than himself: the '97 Hulk show (one ep: "Down Memory Lane"), some show called The 7th Portal, Stripperella (a character he created, btw), the MTV Spider-Man show (one ep), a feature-length film called The Condor based on one of his properties, the animated Black Panther show on BET (one ep), as the Mayor in multiple episodes of Super Hero Squad, some Mad TV episode animated shorts, the Avengers Assemble show (as a future Tony Stark), multiple eps of Hulk and the Agents of SMASH as the mayor, Big Hero 6 and its TV spin-off, and a show called The Reflection. I'm sure I've missed some.

I very explicitly said NO MORE regarding Bill Maher. Next person to discuss him gets a week's suspension. NOT the time or place.

Thinking about it in pure numbers, Stan Lee probably brought more happiness to more people in his own lifetime than anybody else in the history of the planet.
The only obvious competitor would be Walt Disney. When Walt Disney died, his creations were beloved, but he wasn't around to see the company become the unstoppable juggernaut it is now.
Stan was there from the very beginning of the Silver Age and watched his creations evolve from disposable entertainment to the very top of the Hollywood mountain. He was there every step of the way. From Spider-Man as lines on paper up through the barely-animated 60's cartoon, the hilariously-bad 70's live-action show, the Amazing Friends (and the other) animated series in the 80's, the bubble-period 90's show, and *three different* live-action film franchises. Ditto with the X-Men, the Hulk, Daredevil, and the other heavy-hitters.
I know people in their 60's who are big Stan Lee fans. People with grandchildren of their own who are ALSO Stan Lee fans. His characters, in whatever form, have been loved by *literally* BILLIONS of people.
Walt Disney never saw of the items he released for sale sell for over a million dollars (As a copy of Stan's Amazing Fantasy 15 did in 2011).
Stan Lee is going to take his place, a place of honor, among the all-time greats of famous people. He's going to show up alongside Edison and George Washington in time travel stories. His name will become shorthand for creators who produce a lot of hits in a short period of time. He is functionally immortal.

The real tragedy about Walt Disney's death is that he didn't live long enough to see Walt Disney World become a reality. More than anything else, WDW, especially EPCOT, represented his dream project and what he considered his lasting gift for humanity. And sadly he died before its completion.
I'm not sure if Stan Lee ever had such grandiose dreams, but he also lived to be 95 years old. There's so much he was able to accomplish that I imagine he had a very fulfilled life. And the way he spread such positivity among fans and the industry is in itself a lasting legacy, arguably moreso than any of his creations or co-creations with the likes of Kirby or Ditko. The man was a living legend, but he never put himself out there as such. I'm sure the man had an ego as all great people inevitably do. But if he did, he never showed it towards the fans. His accessibility will always be a part of his life's story.

I saw a pic this weekend - it appeared to be an official Marvel cover, by Greg Horn, of Stan Lee chewing out Secret Empire Cap........... That legit made me sad. I know Stan was moreorless fine with it, especially since it didn't stick & explained away, but...that hit me.
