I really wish there was more in my neck of the woods. Probably my second favorite genre of food after America's interpretation of Italian food

Currywurst is an abomination in the eyes of god. They do have very good bakeries in Munich, though.

I had dinner in Germany, when I went to Epcot. It wasn't bad.

The only I've been to was in Tokyo.
There's a German market in town every Christmas though and they serve a lot of German food. It's always awesome to eat your way around it.

Yeah, there's one near where I live in Brooklyn. Or there was. I haven't been there in awhile, don't know if it's still there. I remember enjoying it.

I would love to go to one some day. I think I would totally love the food.

Theres 2 near me. My favorite is in the back of a german grocery store. Very laid back and not a tourist type of place like a Brauhaus would be.

I have been to one and I love the schnitzel. It has to be in my top ten favorite things to eat.

Yeah there's one I go to on occasion.
I always say I wanna try something different but I always end up getting the German sausage platter with sauerkraut because it's so good.

There's a good one in my area, went a few years ago. Think I had schnitzel of some sort. Knocked back a couple of Radlers too, which is 1/2 beer, 1/2 lemonade soda.

At least once or twice a year I'll treat my parents to a meal at a Swiss German restaurant which makes a bloody awesome chicken schnitzel.

I had Chinese food in Chile. Having other countries style food in a random country is fun

There are some good German restaurants in Toronto, but my favourite is a place called Zum Schneider in the East Village of NYC.
It’s basically a neighbourhood pub meets authentic restaurant and the food is outstanding.

Yes, and I got seriously sick and tired of the place. It wound up catering every single function I went to and I just did not care for their food.

Such threads are fascinating to read for me as a German. Hearing about those places you mention sounds good too although I probably won't visit any of them when I visit there (I come to the US to eat the local specialities after all and not something I get at home).

What are some German restaurants you’d recommend at home? I went to Germany for the first time this year and feasted heartily. Maybe not my favorite, but the best bang for your buck was a place in Heidelberg. It was called however you say Alligator in German or something like that. Delicious food but not as crazy expensive as some German places can be.

If you were in Heidelberg, perhaps you came across Frankfurt am Main as well?
This town is famous for its cider pubs, you might call them...very casual places where you can meet the locals (you usually don't sit at separate tables but on large tables with long benches) and also get a good variety of good German dishes (potato soup, sausage platters, schnitzel [besides the regular version, there exists usually a specialty schnitzel of the house; for example, one pub I went to, had a delicious schnitzel covered in an apple wine sauce with grilled potatoes], pork leg, grilled meat loaf with sunny-side up egg etc.).
They also get their name from being famous for their cider which is very famous in Frankfurt (if you do not like alcoholic drinks, they also have apple juice or any soft drinks you'd like).

In the US cider refers to unfiltered, unsweetened apple juice while hard cider refers to the alcoholic kind. You know, because we just have to be different.
