So, am I trippin', or is this the hardest Mortal Kombat game since *at least* Deception? EDIT: Also, this is the most violent the fatalities have ever been, right? Maybe my empathy needs to be toned down a bit, but MK11 seems to have more of a focus on agony rather than absurd spectacle. Might be the slow motion close-ups that just linger as opposed to the victory stance giving that impression. I know it's just a game, but I'm getting both the willies AND the heebie-jeebies. Don't get me wrong, I love the game, but so much feels like a bigger departure from MKX than MKX was from MK9 if that makes sense. I feel the same way about the fatalities. Idk if it's cuz I'm getting older but they're a little unsettling to me.

Yeah, it genuinely feels like when Netherrealm Studios decided to crank down the fanservice knob a bit (which is... whatever), they figured they'd offset it by cranking the violence and gore levels up even more than before. Which would normally be fine - after all, that's part of what made Mortal Kombat so popular - but they've kinda gone overboard, and that's just with the Fatal Blows. I know MK 9 had the X-Ray Attacks (I think?), but those were... way more tame than the Fatal Blows are. Hell, the Fatal Blows alone would have probably worked as fatalities, considering I think every one of them has someone getting violently shot, stabbed, electrocuted, impaled, burned, frozen, crushed, or some combinations of those, and getting up relatively fine. {Spoiler}Like, okay, I've been watching Pat (of Super Best Friends/Pat Stares At fame) play through the story mode, and... there's a fight at the end of the Sonya section against Past!Kano, where Pat hits him with Sonya's Fatal Blow. Kano gets shot multiple times by an automatic turret, then has his face slammed into it as a final shot goes off, and it blows through his skull. But then he gets up fine, only to get shot in the face thirty seconds later and die, which is... silly.

Those moves being known as “ Fatal Blows” are hilariously misleading since they are most certainly not fatal at all, just taking out a good chunk of health when executed.

Yeah, the Fatal Blows being just as violent as some Fatalities (and some being even BETTER than some Fatalities) kind of ruins the impact of the Fatalities IMO.
On a different subject...who would have thought when the first MK game came out we would have four romances in this series: Liu Kang/Kitana, Kotal/Jade, Johnny/Sonya and though it's mostly off screen now since he's not in this game playable Takeda/Jacqui.

The Fatal Blows are something I could do without.
Get stabbed in the skull... Tis but a scratch.

So, I finally bit the bullet and bought the game. Enjoying it, but Ronda Rousey really should stick to athletics. Really.
Also Cassie Cage's actress is great, but I miss Ashly Burch's portrayal.

Kenshi having an offscreen death is BS pure and simple.

Kenshi having an offscreen death is BS pure and simple. 1)I don't think the Krypt is canon. After all, Kano is dead in the Krypt as well. 2)This is Mortal Kombat, they can easily bring him back somehow if he is dead in canon. Even easier thanks to 3)The story mode ending leaves a lot of possibilities for EVERY Mortal Kombat character. Except maybe Hsu Hau, because even the game creators hate him.

Would be slightly odd when facing Erron Black with that one entrance...

It's threating to become more interesting than the character.

As I mentioned my biggest problem with it was it breaks the flow of the fights. You gotta stop and wait for the overly long combo to play out. And it's generally interesting the first time but like by the 3rd it's old.

With all this talk of Hsu Hao and Erron Black's entrance, I've noticed a pattern forming. Black is kinda turning into the Scourge of the Underworld from Marvel Comics; he's basically a plot device to explain why some lesser-liked characters haven't come back. Kobra? Killed by Erron Black. Hsu Hao? Killed by Erron Black. So, who's next? My money's on Chameleon.

Idk if it's cuz I'm getting older but they're a little unsettling to me. I don't think it's because we're getting older, if that we the case we should have a thicker skin/be somewhat desensitized, right? Even in MKX you'd have the loser's panic before the fatality or the scream during, but then it's over and you see the winner and it's chalked up to "cool victory in style." Here, and I hope this makes sense, the fatalities I've seen so far deviate from the franchise's history of "This Kombatant is finishing them off in a gruesome way" to "This Kombatant is getting finished off in a gruesome way." There's a level of detachment that feels almost voyeuristic and just emphasizes the aftermath rather than the action. Anyone else feel me on that? Yeah, it genuinely feels like when Netherrealm Studios decided to crank down the fanservice knob a bit (which is... whatever), they figured they'd offset it by cranking the violence and gore levels up even more than before. Also, the X-Rays are just that, we see the skull and some muscle damage, so we don't get the physical expression of pain on the Kombatants' faces. Those moves being known as “ Fatal Blows” are hilariously misleading since they are most certainly not fatal at all, just taking out a good chunk of health when executed. As I mentioned my biggest problem with it was it breaks the flow of the fights. You gotta stop and wait for the overly long combo to play out. And it's generally interesting the first time but like by the 3rd it's old. Yeah, or something that can only be done in a final round I am glad that they can only do them once per match.
