Does anyone know this band.... All of a sudden I hear one of their songs on the Chris Rock movie commercial (Gone Daddy Gone) and then right after another is being played during a Wendy's commercial (Blister in the Sun). I didn't think anyone remembered that band. Coincidentally I got roped into doing a gig playing drums for all their music in a couple weeks. WTF? Please share your Violent Femmes story.

It probably end up on a Ford commercial with some kid trying to borrow his dad's pickup.

I believe they're a pretty famous band. I don't find it too surprising that one of their songs was used in a commercial.
I think they're kinda hit and miss personally, but they had some good stuff.

I found out about the VFemmes back in the late 80's when I was taking some acting classes. It seemed that all the cool artistic teens liked them. I really miss those days.
I'm told by people that the music I play at open mics sounds alot like the Femmes but with abit of a crazy homeless guy vibe.
Congrats on the drumming gig.

They're having a resurgence right now because Gnarls Barkley covered "Gone Daddy Gone"
their greatest hits CD is in the jukebox at this bar I frequent. the only song that would ever get played was Blister In The Sun, unless I happened to go and play Kiss Off. I saw the video for the Gnarls cover on MTV late one night, the very next week, someone was playing the original version at the bar.

Don't go to YouTube and watch the VF version of Gone Daddy Gone unless you want to read about a bunch of kids yelling back and forth on which version is better.

That's probably the version in the movie, because it sounded like a redo. The Wendy's commercial was the actual recording. I also remember them from the late 80's. Helluva Bass player there.

Can someone tell me what "Blister In The Sun" has to do with Wendys?
Or why the Violent Femmes would sell it to a fast food company?
Money. Yes, I know. Root of all evil.
Just saddens me. I used to dig that song, but I vowed not to listen to popular songs rehashed to be used in commercials.
Don't cheapen my musical memories.
