Who could play the role like Backlund did in 1994-95?
A beloved star from the past who snaps against today's talent.

Two years early, but isn’t that literally Daniel Bryan right now?

15 years ago... 2003. Who was a beloved star with the overness and skillset to get it right...
Eddie Guerrero? Benoit? Edge? Christian?
Well this bummed me out.

Shawn Michaels would be the best choice. Have him comeback and snap and attack HHH and Steph. Then someone else leading to one last program. Bryan would be perfect as an opponent..if he wasn't a heel.

Nah, I'm good. There aren't enough of them left in good enough condition to be able to pull it off in a non-cringy way.

Baclund seemed like such a relic and so old, but really it wasn’t even as long as Angle was gone.
Man, they should do this with Angle.

Angle would be good
Won't happen though because everyone wants to be funny these days so the person would just ham it up and end up being cheered

John Cena in a “think about the children!” type heel role would be amazing.

The owner of the company is going an amazing job filling that role right now.

This thread raises the big issue with WWE's lost generation and how completely mismanaged the company became post-WCW. There's so few guys from that era who you could even bring back as veteran talents or treat at all like they have any importance or purpose. So many guys came and went during the Cena years meaning nothing at all, so there's no real juice in nostalgia runs

I don't know but knowing WWE they would just screw it up. Backlund was legit (Until he was squashed by Diesel). It was a good gimmick. And it passed for Backlund because by all accounts dude was a legit bad ass. So its gotta be somebody that is tough shoot-wise.
