What does anyone think of this show? The WWE really had a skeleton roster at the time due to the Montreal screw job so I think the quality suffered because of that.
This show, the WWE really pushed new talent whether it was the New Age Outlaws (at the expense of making the LOD look bad) or Shawn or HHH.
HHH had a NO DQ match with 45 plus year old Sgt. Slaughter who was the face commissioner. Of course, the ultra cool HHH got more cheers than Slaughter who didn't despite JR's best efforts. It was this match that I sensed that WWE was changing because HHH won. Prior to this, anytime there was a past star against a present star, the former lost.
Than there is Steve Austin defending his IC title against the Rock (who stole Austin's belt). Rock had the NOD out there. Austin countered by bringing his truck as an equalizer. (Following night Vince said Dteve endangered the lives of fans by doing that. How did Stdve endanger fans?)
What do u think?

I watched this not long ago. The thing that strikes me about a lot of this time period, watching from a 2018 perspective, is the sigh of relief I make whenever Shawn Michaels finally turns up. Like, finally, someone good's here! Hawk and Animal were terrible at this point. And Sergeant Slaughter and the DOA were all always terrible. It's really interesting, from this show and from shows much earlier than this, to see how all-in they were on Triple H and the Rock from a very, very early point. Mostly gone are the days where you can end a PPV on a DQ, too

It was a placeholder show. Wasn't suppose to be anything major as they were saving everything for the Rumble and Mania.

I loved Stone Cold vs Rock. The beginning of a legendary feud, and the usage of the truck was so entertaining, such a fun little brawl. I don't remember much else from the PPV. Is this the one where HHH was ringside and he tried hitting Shamrock and barely even slapped him, and JR goes "and a big right hand!"

One thing I miss from 1997 that I wish was brought back today was the backstage footage of wrestlers prepping up near the gorilla position before their music hit. It gave the show such an important documentary style feel. The primary example from this PPV being the Shamrock/DX pre-match interviews. Man, before Kevin Dunn became one of the most hated men in wrestling he was killing it from a production standpoint from 1996 to around 2002.

It gave the viewer that big match feeling. I’ve always felt presentation is very important. When you get the same boring old formula all the time nothing feels special anymore.

The start of arguably the biggest rivalry in the history of pro wrestling.

I’m actually a huge fan of this show. Is it the best? No. But it’s fun, and that’s what’s missing from a lot of today’s events.

What I remember most about this show is that it basically didnt exist in WWF canon for years and years. It happened right after the screw job so it was kind of a thrown together card. And it happened during the transition from Coliseum Video to WWF Home Video so it didn’t get any kind of release in the US. If you didn’t order it live, you weren’t gonna see it. I remember seeing highlights of Owen attacking Shawn on Raw and footage of Austin beating up the Nation on his truck in video packages but that’s about it. They barely mentioned the results and just went toward the Rumble. Once 1998 hit, the WWF didn’t mention the pre-1998 WWF for quite awhile after that. This show was a causality if that historiography.

The only thing I remember was HBK’s f***ing awesome DX tights. By far my favourite look of his.
