Was the hammerstein Batista vs. Big Show match the starting point?
Or was it another moment in their 2006-2010 run?

Most will point to December To Dismember.
I watched it years after the fact, pretty much in a bubble, and I quite enjoyed it.

When it stopped being “Extreme”
Around December 2006. After December to Dismember.
Big Show had an amazing run with the title, defending it against the likes of Sabu, Ric Flair, Dreamer, RVD and Sandman in Extreme Rules matches. When he lost the title to Lashley, it all went out the window.
Then Vince became Champ and yeah...

Calling it ECW. Once the show found its footing it was by and large WWE's best show.

It started off awful and wasn't ECW.
But then when they stopped trying to be ECW Lite it became a great show. Christian had one of the most enjoyable title runs ever, pretty much the entire card looked strong-- even Tommy Dreamer and Zack Ryder were booked as threats. There were a number of fun feuds, even in the midcarc -- Sheamus Vs Goldust was great, Dreamer and Delaney Vs Miz and Morrison stands out as enough memorable midcarc feud.
Guys who were going nowhere came to ECW and had great runs -- Matt, Mark Henry and Kane.
It became a good, well booked, fun show.

Hope that it was going to be anything like the actual ECW died when Sabu lost to Big Show. Though really once it figured out how to be its own thing, it was pretty damn good

It's a great example of the old rule: "If Vince doesn't personally care about a particular show, it will become by far the most entertaining show the WWE has." Later-day ECW was awesome. I do especially remember the Goldust/Sheamus feud. It was obviously designed to get Sheamus over, but Goldust seemed like a real participant... not just a schlub who was destined to lose. (also, Sheamus showed up to the Abraham Washington Show in his awesome natty outfit and I became a fan for life)

Yeah, really the only person who was consistently bad in ECW's dying days was the Hurricane. Other than his stuff the show was great.

I enjoyed his feud with Burchill, but it didn't really have an ending. I remember he and Kate became supervillains but it was dropped immediately

They should have never revived ECW. The original ECW a counter-culture movement in wrestling. The big corporate WWE was never going to emulate that rebellious spirt no matter how they tried.
