My list so far... {Spoiler}{Spoiler}
1) 2019-01-06 "Laser Mission" - 1989 2) 2019-01-13 "Kung Fu For Sale" (Gong Fu Da Pai Mai) - 1979 3) 2019-01-13 "Kung Fu: The Punch of Death" (Fang Shi Yu) - 1972 4) 2019-01-20 "Halloween" - 2018 5) 2019-01-27 "Missing In Action" - 1984 6) 2019-01-27 "Missing In Action 2: The Beginning" - 1985 7) 2019-02-03 "Braddock: Missing In Action 3" - 1988 8) 2019-02-10 "The Born Losers" - 1967 9) 2019-02-10 "Elvira, Mistress of the Dark" - 1988 10) 2019-02-17 "Suspiria" - 2018 11) 2019-02-24 "The Night Stalker" - 1972 12) 2019-02-24 "The Night Strangler" - 1973
13) 2019-03-03 "Silent Rage" - 1982 ![](https://i.imgur.com/cFJuqgJ.jpg?1) Review {Spoiler}{Spoiler} Story: small-town Sheriff has to deal with a serial killer that's escaped from a medical facility that given him incredible healing power.
OK, it's Chuck Norris versus "Halloween" Michael Myers. There's a bit of Chuck being his usual kung-fu badass as he deals with a motorcycle gang (which was a fun bar fight), and there's a bit of romance between Chuck and an old flame with a connection to the doctors, and a bit of comic relief provided by Chuck's sidekick, Deputy Charlie (played by Stephen Furst, Flounder in "Animal House")... but the movie mainly is an 80's slasher flick with Chuck Norris, and it's a pretty good one. The killer (Brian Libby) is scary as hell, not speaking after he starts killing at the very beginning of the movie, just grunting and screaming... you could just feel the crazy in his eyes during close-ups. Cast of victims is filled out with Ron Silver as one of the doctors (the one with morals), and William Finley (The Phantom from "The Phantom of the Paradise") as a medical assistant).
Film is noteworthy for two things in Chuck Norris' career... 1) first time as a Texas cop, and 2) the romantic scenes with Chuck were so embarrassingly bad that Chuck apologized during interviews and refused to do that again.
Great slasher, interrupted by a pretty good fight scene. Recommended.
14) 2019-03-03 "Boss" - 1975 ![](https://i.imgur.com/lHod50c.jpg?1) Review {Spoiler}{Spoiler} Story: two black bounty hunters take the role of Sheriff and Deputy of a small western town in order to capture a fugitive, and bring some racial equality to the people.
Blaxploitation-western, written by star Fred Williamson (who wrote it after seeing "Blazing Saddles" and getting upset it didn't address racism better). Basic western script with lots of humourous bits dealing with the townsfolk being confronted with their racism. D'Urville Martin (who directed "Dolemite") is fun as Deputy Otis, William Smith is a nasty piece of work as the fugitive Jed Clayton, and the smoking hot Barbara Leigh is the 'progressively minded' schoolteacher Miss Pruitt (who takes a bit of a shine to Boss).
Warning: the real name of the movie is not "Boss", but it contains a racial term that I'm not using here... but the film starts with the original title and the theme song uses it a lot, and the term is all through the movie.
I enjoyed it a bunch. Recommended.

#65 Trolls11/4/16 | Director: Mike Mitchell | Rotten Tomatoes: 75% | Runtime: 92 minutes | Platform: DVDThe Plot: Two trolls go on a quest to rescue their friends from creatures who eat them in order to be happy. Strengths: This had pretty much all the elements you want from a family friendly kids movie. The animation style is wonderful. The world the trolls live in is vibrant and colorful. There’s great design there. Most of the voice cast delivers. Anna Kendrick (Princess Poppy) brings her optimistic charm to the lead role, Justin Timberlake (Branch) is better at the paranoid role than expected, Christopher Mintz-Plasse (King Gristle Jr.) is fun, and Zooey Deschanel (Bridget) is delightful. There’s also good supporting stuff from Gwen Stefani (DJ Suki), Christine Baranski (Chef), and James Corden (Biggie). There’s heart to the story and it allows the two lead characters to grow throughout the runtime. They both learn a pivotal lesson along the way. It’s also lighthearted, which is sometimes nice to see in a film. Weaknesses: For a movie based around music, none of the songs stick out. Going with covers means kids will instantly recognize the music and I understand that. However, none of the covers are memorable. As soon as the movie ended, I basically forgot what songs were even played. That’s not a good sign when it’s such a key part of the film. That’s kind of the issue with the whole movie. It doesn’t do anything to stand out from all the other kids’ movies out there. In that sense, it’s kind of bland. Overall: A fun way to spend an hour and a half. It’s lighthearted and colorful, so the whole family can enjoy. It just doesn’t do anything special or memorable. [***]

27. The Forbidden Dance (a 1990 film about the Lambada dance; there was even a movie that came out around that same time CALLED Lambada, but I watched The Forbidden Dance, which I laughed at at times) 28. Captain Marvel (It was good; look past the politics and Brie Larson drama, and you may have fun)

14. Scott Pilgrim vs The World 15. Captain Marvel 16. Tag 17. The Scribbler 18. Locke
Seen Pilgrim before, one of my favorite movies but lost my copy. Rebought it and rematches. Still amazing.
Captain Marvel was full and uninspired but not bad. High point for me was Ben Mendelson’s performance, managing to be both menacing and someone you can feel for without compromising the integrity of the character. If we ever get a sequel, getting away from an origin story and better definining Carol would likely be the biggest improvements and we’d surely get them.
Tag was super fun and legitimately funny. People kept recommending it to me and now I see why. Not too many modern comedies hit the mark as well as this one.
The scribbler was a film trying way too hard, but the written material wasn’t good enough to take the film anywhere. A pretentious mess of a superhero film with little redeeming about it. Can’t follow the plot, the characters are one note, and the dialogue goes between okay and truly terrible.
Locke was amazing. I can’t believe more people haven’t talked about it. Hey ts just Tom Hardy making calls from his car phone for 90 minutes but it’s some of the most compelling 90 minutes I’ve ever seen.

#66 Frozen11/22/13 | Directors: Chris Buck & Jennifer Lee | Rotten Tomatoes: 90% | Runtime: 102 minutes | Platform: DVDThe Plot: A princess who had her powers stripped when she was a child sets off on a journey to find her sister, whose ability to control ice and snow had damaged the kingdom. Strengths: As you should expect from a 2013 Disney animated film, this looks gorgeous. The colors, the animation style, and all the characters look really well done. Kristen Bell (Anna) is phenomenal as the lead. There’s something endearing and sympathetic about the way she sounds. Bell is also a much better singer than I expected. I enjoyed her songs more than the ones by Idina Menzel (Elsa). Josh Gad (Olaf) is fun as the lovable goof of a snowman and Jonathan Groll (Kristoff) is enjoyable. Anna is made to feel like a strong character and she’s quite active. While there is a romantic subplot, I’m glad the movie instead focuses on the relationship between the sisters. The “true love saves” trope gets a bit turned on its head in a good way. Anna looks for Kristoff to do it, but sacrifices herself for her sister and it’s a very good idea. You get the sense these women are a bit more advanced than your traditional Disney princess. Weaknesses: For a movie that made a truckload of money partially because of its music, that department lacks for me. I found all the songs pretty forgettable and none of them stood out. They aren’t bad, but they’re kind of just there. Other than the twist on the true love thing, the plot is way predictable. You can see what’s coming beforehand because it’s not original. In fact, the character of Hans (Santino Fontana) could have been completely cut out. You can tell he’s shady and you see his double cross coming a mile away. Overall: I avoided seeing this movie until now because the hype was a bit much and the songs were annoying. It turns out that it is very good, but lacks the originality and that something special to make it great. [***½]

10. Captain Marvel - More enjoyable MCU action. Fun, action packed but nothing super special. 11. Cry-Baby - Johnny Depp in a surprisingly good musical teen comedy.

#67 The Mighty Ducks10/2/92 | Director: Stephen Herek | Rotten Tomatoes: 21% | Runtime: 104 minutes | Platform: HBOThe Plot: A former hockey prodigy turned lawyer is forced to coach a pee-wee team for community service. Strengths: This is the definition of a feel good story. The idea of a ragtag group coming together to find success in sports is tried and true. The kids are mostly likable, our protagonist learns a lesson, and the script gives them plenty of time to have fun along the way. Emilio Estevez (Gordon Bombay) does well as the coach, while Joshua Jackson (Charlie Conway), Shaun Weiss (Greg Goldberg), and Elden Henson (Fulton Reed) get the highlights among kid actors. There are funny moments throughout that still make me laugh over two decades later. Timeless comedy can be hard to pull off. There’s a lot of heart to the story and it’s easy to become emotionally invested in it all. Weaknesses: It’s not anything original. The movie hits the expected beats of almost any other underdog sports story. The romantic storyline between Estevez and Heidi King (Casey Conway) doesn’t work for me. It drags the movie down at points and really doesn’t need to be there. Gordon as a father figure for Charlie is enough, the romance with the mom is too much. Also, most of the unimportant members of the team feel more like stereotypes than actual people. Overall: How can you not love this movie? It’s everything you want in a family sports film from this era. There’s a reason this is a cult classic. [****]

spider-man into the spider verse excellent and exciting to watch ..... but ISN'T a perfect ten for me ..... bit scattershot, doesn't utilise everything they show (they have a BUGGY and a BIKE yet take the BUS!), and quite frankly kingpin looks ridiculously too big even in an animation but watch it to the very end ..... just wanted to post this right away ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png)

#68 Point Break - **1/2 #69 Captain Marvel3/8/19 | Directors: Anna Boden & Ryan Fleck | Rotten Tomatoes: 80% | Runtime: 124 minutes | Platform: TheaterThe Plot: A woman with intergalactic powers lands on Earth and attempts to stop a war between alien races. Strengths: There has been a lot of talk about Brie Larson (Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel) leading her own superhero film. I’d say she does a great job here. She does lack some of the charisma that some other MCU stars have, but she carries the role with confidence and a snarky attitude that makes her come across as tough. The supporting characters are where this movie truly shines. Ben Mendelsohn (Talos) steals the show among the actors. Without giving too much away, he embodies every single aspect of the character he needs to at various times of the film. Goose the cat is the other show stealer. Samuel L. Jackson (Nick Fury) is likable and has an easy chemistry with Larson. The special effects on de-aging him and Clark Gregg (Phil Coulson) look the best they ever have. It came across as natural. I also loved both Lashana Lynch (Maria Rambeau) and Akira Akbar (Monica Rambeau). Lynch is especially fantastic and has one of the best scenes when she gives her big speech. The visuals are outstanding, especially towards the end. The movie is kind of the opposite of older MCU solo debuts. It picked up late with one of the better final two-thirds in the series. The 90s theme throughout the film is mostly well done, from the music to the references. Of course, the post-credits scenes are both fantastic. Weaknesses: While I did like Danvers, she suffers from a similar problem that T’Challa had in Black Panther. The supporting characters outshined her very often. The 90s stuff also got a bit overdone at points. Jude Law (Yon-Rogg) is lackluster here, giving nothing special to his role. The character was also kind of a drag and is featured in some of the film’s weaker moments. Lee Pace (Ronan the Accuser) was brought back for no reason. The character is lame and does nothing of note in this movie. The first third of the movie is forgettable and filled with far too much obvious exposition. Overall: There are clear flaws in the movie, but the good heavily outweighs the bad. Larson is strong, while the supporting cast of characters is among the best we’ve seen in the MCU to this point. Great visuals and a fun final two-thirds makes for one hell of a ride that will leave you satisfied. [****]
