some recent watches
Godzilla: King of the Monsters - I liked it, I could tell it wasn't a perfect film and maybe a film I won't remember well in months to come, but was a good way to kill a couple of hours Tag - liked this more than I thought I would, Isla Fisher steals the show for me. Departures (aka Then Came You) - honestly... I cried like a baby at the end, I'm quite a blubberer (is that a word?) at films anyway. Maisie Williams again proves she is an excellent actress in my opinion. Some good supporting roles for Ken Jeong and David Koechner among other.

119. Kong: Skull Island. I keep my thoughts on the current SJW/sex war to myself but I can’t watch anything with Brie Larson in it. Her smug look makes me tune out of anything scene she’s in. But this at least has Tom Hiddleson, Samuel L. Jackson, John C. Reily and JOHN GOODMAN to make up for her. This was okay. The comedy bits with Reilly’s character were really funny. I think Peter Jackson’s King Kong was way better. 120. The Incredible Story of the Giant Pear.

RocketMan- I see lots of comparisons to Bohemian Rhapsody, but, they are both very good movies.

9. Fighting With My Family. When it starts off you might think this is going to be some out of the ordinary family film but it gets a little too vulgar to be just that. I didn’t mind all the more adult humor. It was actually pretty refreshing because I didn’t expect it. Vince Vaughn was great in his role. The sextape line from The Rock was clever. The whole family was entertaining. I think just about any wrestling fan could watch this and enjoy it. It’s also a very easy watch and doesn’t drag at all which always helps.

121. Jason Goes to Hell: the Final Friday. This wasn’t entirely terrible. I think what killed it was having “Friday the 13th” attached to it but straying too far from the source material. Maybe as a stand-alone slasher movie about a killers essence possessing people it would have been seen in a better light. But I’m sure there have been other movies about a killer possessing different host bodies. I’ve probably watched five this year and don’t even remember. The Creighton Duke character was pretty entertaining and while I wouldn’t watch an entire series of movies about him he was a nice addition to this series. The gore is much higher. The scenes of the former “host bodies” melting after Jason’s essence has left them are pretty cool. It’s just not a “Jason” movie. 122. Jason X. This was a lot lower budget than I was expecting. It was pretty scabby even for a turn-of-the-millennium movie. The acting was really low-caliber too. The girls were all way hotter and parts of it were really f***ing funny (the Crystal Lake simulation was so hilarious). Some of the deaths were pretty awesome (“frozen face”) and Jason was back to being a badass as if the last movie never happened. I enjoyed this one way more than the previous one.

22.Godzilla: King of the Monsters - Godzilla goes toe to toe with King Ghidorah, Mothra and Rodan fly about. I absolutely loved it.

#153 - X-Men Origins: Wolverine
The low point for the X-Men franchise. Hugh Jackman is still enjoyable, but the movie misses the mark in almost every other aspect. A total mess. [*½]

54. 12 Rounds (2009)
I still genuinely enjoy this film despite being a knock-off of Speed and Die Hard With a Vengeance. Is it good? No, but it's still entertaining.

123. The Mother of Tears. I worried that time and the era would tame Argentos work but ten minutes into this movie some lady dies in one of the most brutal, graphic fashions I’ve seen. Then a baby gets thrown off a bridge...and you see it bounce off the footing of bridge into the water. So yeah, this was still pretty hardcore. No holding back. The story is decent and some of the acting is pretty bad but this still has good style and look. the ending is rather lame.

124. Day of the Dead. My personal favourite of Romero’s zombie movies. Even more than ‘Dawn’. The characters are all great and I find myself rooting for the good-guys and against the bad-guys. Logan is great. The makeup and gore are phenomenal. But the highlight is anything Bub.

#154 - X-Men: Apocalypse
There’s no real way to get around it. This is easily the worst part of this X-Men trilogy. However, it’s not a bad movie. The work of most of the cast is great and the new additions were mostly welcome. The action and effects are also strong. There’s just a bit too much going on and it suffers from a massively disappointing villain. [***]

#155 - Booksmart
My problems with this movie are nitpicks because the most important things to get right are where this movie excels. Excellent acting, writing, comedy, dialogue, music, and great work from a first time director make this a home run. Second best movie I’ve seen this year. [****½]
