128. Joker - Okay, I went in knowing that this was its own thing and while it does sort of tie into Batman lore, there were a lot of differences between this interpretation of this character and the comic book version, along with interpretations in other films and shows. With that being said, Joaquin Phoenix really nailed his performance in this role. I can see how committed he was in that he lost a lot of weight and did everything to make his character work. Plus, the writing of other lore characters was well-done, in that they were different from the common versions of them. I will note that I was disturbed and my jaw dropped in some scenes, but I know that was what they were going for. Recommended, but definitely not for the faint of heart or for anyone expecting a Batman film.

#299 - I Know What You Did Last Summer
It is incredibly cheesy and that’s what I like about it. I didn’t come here for great acting or storytelling. I just wanted to see some recognizable actors cheese it up and this movie delivers. I wish there were better kills though. The Fisherman is a lame villain. [**]

266. Profondo Rosso. I didn’t like this one too much. The violence was good but it was very far between. And there were some stylistically awesome shots and a good soundtrack. But a lot of it just wasn’t for me. I didn’t get anything out of the humour and I was just bored. And the version I was watching didn’t have subtitles so I couldn’t understand almost half of the movie.

267. Halloween 6: the Curse of Michael Myers. There was a shift in tone in this one. It felt darker and more supernatural, almost like a Hellraiser movie. It wasn’t that bad but it wasn’t that good either. It just was. It explained the overall story of Michael Myers, even including slight reference to the third movie. The violence is really nice and gory. Paul Rudd is terrible though. Worth watching.

#300 - I Still Know What You Did Last Summer
Not as enjoyable as the first one. It suffers from diminishing returns. There was no need for this sequel and it showed. They tried to stretch this out to be way longer than it needed to be and it showed. [*½]
#301 - The Final Destination
A return to form for this series. It came back to just giving us goofy death scenes and campy plot points. That’s what this franchise does best. Not the bad dialogue and poor character development we saw in the previous entry. This was cheesy fun. [***]

#302 - Scream
There’s a reason this helped popularize the slasher genre again. It is witty, has some solid scares, and features plenty of plot twists and surprises to keep you on the edge of your seat. A classic. [***½]

#303 - Terminator 2: Judgment Day
Easily the best work of James Cameron’s career. This was even better than the original. They managed to make the Terminator into a likable good guy who formed an endearing bond with John Connor. Robert Patrick is a great villain and Linda Hamilton feels like one of the most badass women in cinema history. The effects hold up remarkably well, the plot is compelling, and the action is tremendous. [****½]

129. Final Destination - So I started a Final Destination marathon and you guessed, this is where I started (I have heard that FD5 is a prequel, but come on, I am not doing that with this). Anyway, it had been a REALLY LONG TIME since I had last watched this. I am not sure if the last time was back in 2000 or 2001, not counting moments of catching bits and pieces of it on USA, but hey, I watched it again after quite some time. Anyway, this film holds up, mainly for the death scenes and some of the drama that occurred. In a lot of ways, especially after listening to the We Hate Movies podcast episode on this, I felt like a deleted scene was left on the cutting room floor and the producers either didn't edit or do a re-shoot of some scene. Other than that, I still enjoyed it after all these years.
130. Final Destination 2 - Round 2 of the marathon. I remember watching this on Starz or Encore WAY BACK WHEN as well, probably 2004 I believe. Anyway, I enjoyed a lot of the deaths in this. It was much darker than the first film, though a couple of death scenes were pretty funny in a dark way. I enjoyed it.
Now I just need to do the last three.

131. Final Destination 3 - I remember watching this a long time ago, probably on HBO On Demand. I think it was in 2007. Anyway, the death scenes and the gore were fun and all, but there was some bad dialogue in the film. However, I did like how rather than order of death that was done in the first film (I don't recall any order being done in 2), but rather signs of how someone will die in the photos. I didn't mind it. It was not a bad way to pass an hour and a half.
132. The Final Destination - I will admit that a lot of the death scenes got me laughing so hard. It was more over-the-top this time and I sense that this film was in 3D when it was released in theaters. It's pretty obvious with some things flying on the screen and thinking about it now, I wonder how the 3D was. Anyway, as ridiculous as it was, it was fun in some areas. It was pretty wacky, though.
133. Final Destination 5 - I found this interesting in that it was a lot darker than the others, even darker than 2 for that matter. Plus, it was great to see Tony Todd in this film and I was well aware going into it that it was prequel to the first film. I also liked the direction it went in, especially with some character development. Probably one of the better films of the franchise.

268. Halloween: H20. I don’t miss late-1990’s attempts to appeal to Generation-X. And I don’t miss Josh Hartnett. That guys f***ing voice grated on me in every movie I saw him in. ... ...and I really don’t like movies that come out decades after an original that completely ignore multiple sequels, no matter the quality of said sequels. I think you should have to live with your past no matter. It’s funny that twenty years after this they rebooted Halloween again and completely ignored this one too. I can guarantee that in 2038 another Halloween movie will come out that follows an eighty year old Laurie Strode who hasn’t been seen since Halloween 1978. It that's after a sequel to 2018’s Halloween within the next three years. This wasn’t good at all. After the intro scene it took almost an hour for people to start dying. And Michael Myers’ mask looked like total shit. The last minute, however, is awesome. Then early in the credits the classic theme fades out and a Creed song starts playing. That’s the scariest part of the movie.

#304 - Little Monsters
A unique take on the zombie genre. Lupita Nyong’o is tremendous and Josh Gad is hilarious. There’s a touching story and having a class full of children to take care of during a zombie invasion added an interesting level of danger. [***]

49) 2019-10-20 "El Ataque De Los Muertos Sin Ojos" (aka. "Return Of The Evil Dead") - 1973Spanish-made horror, second of the "Blind Dead" series. Story: while a small Spanish village celebrates the defeat of the Knights Templar hundred of years ago, the local 'village idiot' brings the Knights back from the dead to attack the town. A small group of survivors hide in a church and the dead surround them... Low budget but full of atmosphere and creepy imagery, remarkably well made. The survivors look like stock characters but everyone is able to bring a little bit of depth to them, making everyone a fuller person. The dead move like puppets on sticks but look so good that it didn't bother me. The town's mayor pulls a move in this that is so sleazy it deserves mention... After watching a man killed by the dead, the mayor sends that man's crying 5-year old daughter out into the street to attract the dead so the mayor can escape... that is damn cold. The DVD I have has the original Spanish version and the English import. I watched the Spanish version, then skipped through the English version to see if there was a difference that there were a few... a mid-movie torture scene (used to explain the depravity of the Templars) was moved to the very start with no explanation, ther scene where the 'village idiot' sacrifices a woman to raise the dead is cut (so no explanation as to why the Templars came back), and the scene where the Mayor convinces the little girl to look for her daddy is gone. Great movie, I really enjoyed this. ---------- 50) 2019-10-27 "Dark Night Of The Scarecrow" - 1981Story: Bubba ( Larry Drake, "L.A.Law", "Darkman") is a 30-something man with the mind of a 5-year old. and when his little friend Marylee is injured, Bubba is blamed. A posse lead by the town's mailman Otis Hazelrigg ( Charles Durning, "The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas", "O Brother, Where Art Thou?") finds Bubba hiding in a scarecrow costume and kills him, moments before learning Bubba was innocent. Cleared by the courts, Otis and the others return to their lives... but someone is stalking them... or something... Debuted on network TV in the early 80's, so not a bloody slasher flick... but it's damn creepy. It doesn't come out and say something supernatural is happening, leaving the question in your mind that maybe it's all paranoia, or maybe the town's prosecutor is trying to shake the posse into confessing, or maybe Bubba's mother is behind it... it leaves the question open until the truth is out. Durning is excellent as the self-proclaimed leader, who is hiding behind his 'stature' just how little he really is (and his dirty little secrets as well). If you someone who wants a scary movie without seeing a lot of blood and gore... this is a great pick. ---------- 51) 2019-10-27 "De Johnsons" (aka. "The Johnsons) - 1992Dutch horror film. Story: 14-year old girl is stressed about not having her period, goes on vacation with her single mother to remote marsh area. Meanwhile, college professor who studies South American tribal rituals is hired by the government to look into motivations of a family of mass murdering septuplets... Very weird premise for a story but it plays out fairly straight and is quite fun. It starts with a "OK, this is what's happening" set-up (septuplets are part of an ancient prophecy to bring an ancient god to Earth) and then it runs from there. The last half of the movie is 'the chase', the mother and daughter running from the killers, and the end is a nice loud and flashy climax. Good performances all around but the best is by the professor's father, a South American shaman/con man with a silver tongue. It does get bloody here and there, be warned. I liked it, it's weird and fun. You'll never see anything quite like it.
