Been watching 96/97 Austin. Austin would simply grab the opponent by the head and use the move or wait for them to grab him from behind to hit the Stone Cold Stunner.
I do recall later on in 1997 is when the kick to the gut setup happened, but I’m not sure of the first time it happened on tv.
I do recall it was a lot slower at the start. He would kick to the gut and then there would be a delay before they got the stunner. By 98, it was a straight one two punch of a move.

I wanna say it was around WM13, but I could be wrong. He definitely did it for a while without the kick setup. I wanna day he started using the Stunner in the build up to KotR 96

It looked a lot more vicious when it was done slowly.

I first noticed it when he did it to Jim Ross

I watched the first Raw of 97 last night and when he interfered in Bret's match in the aisle (which was almost looked over) it looked like he tried to kick him before the stunner-pretty sloppy actually
