"Hey, let's take some very talented, funny actresses, hand them a terrible script, and give them nothing funny to do or say and slap the Ghostbusters IP all over it". sigh. Exactly. I'm more than willing to give credence to the idea of toxic fandom. Heck, just look at some of the comments about Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Black Panther, and even Captain Marvel as those movies came out or are about to come out. Yet I also think that those who were pro-GB:AtC consider the fact that those who hate it simply hate it on the merits that it looked like (and in my opinion is) a crappy movie. Oh yay, jokes about queffs! Endless talking! It also didn't help the director and stars came out to portray the fans as knuckle dragging neanderthals. As I said before, people got way too obsessed over a movie designed to sell ecto-cooler and papa john's pizza. Redlettermedia (as those guys always do) summed it up best in their Mr. Plinkett review of GB 2016. I don’t doubt that there’s people who hate GB ‘16 for genuine reasons, it’s just the “hurr durr wimmin r bad” MRA asshole crowd who I have a gripe with. The folks who harassed Leslie Jones on Twitter for simply being in this movie. The same folks who are now sharpening their knives in vilifying Brie Larson just because she wanted more diversity in the Captain Marvel press tour. Those jerks are horrific.

While watching the movie, I honestly felt that the people making it grew to resent the fans and source material. Seemed obvious to me when the finale involved the team literally shooting the Ghostbusters logo in the dick.

Totally, I'm there with you. I think these trolls are there to inflame tensions on both sides. Posting nude photos of Leslie Jones or harassing celebs on twitter is not cool.

Even before GB2016 was framed to be female empowering, which it wasn't, Paul Feig's initial outline for the film with dance sequences and alien ghosts was already terrible and a clear indication that he was unsuitable for the film.

So we could get a fun kids movie with a little Ghostbusters IP sprinkled throughout and maybe a few jokes aimed squarely at adults.
Okay, if it's a fun, creative story I'm perfectly fine with that. And if it sells a bunch of toys and action figures then more power to 'em. Plus it could introduce kids to the earlier Ghostbusters movies and The Real Ghostbusters cartoon if they really like it.

Maybe this will ease tensions? www.joblo.com/horror-movies/news/melissa-mccarthy-supports-ghostbusters-3MELISSA MCCARTHY SUPPORTS GHOSTBUSTERS 316 hours ago by: Mike Sprague As we all know, director Ivan Reitman’s son Jason will be helming the upcoming GHOSTBUSTERS 3 (or whatever they're calling it) and the new movie will go back to the continuity of the first two films. We also know that GHOSTBUSTERS (2016) star Leslie Jones thinks this new GHOSTBUSTERS is insulting and "such a dick move." But what does the 2016 reboot's (arguably) main star, Melissa McCarthy think of Reitman's new movie? Well, the actress recently spoke to EW about just that, and in a somewhat surprising turn of events is supportive of the flick. In fact, she goes so far as to say that she's heard Reitman's pitch on the movie and will be buying her ticket to see it come to life on the big screen next summer. Melissa McCarthy on GHOSTBUSTERS 3: "I'm for anybody who's making movies. I talked to Jason about it, he's just always had this idea, and his goes back to the world where the guys did exist and I'm like, 'I want to see that. I'm all for it. I say like, 'Tell the story.' I think there are a million stories to be told. He's a really, really good filmmaker and a really good storyteller, so I will be there buying my ticket. I'm all for it."

I don't care if anyone in the 2016 cast does or doesn't "support" this movie. All that matters in the end is if kids want to go see it or not.

An update: CAPTAIN MARVEL'S MCKENNA GRACE TO STAR IN JASON REITMAN'S GHOSTBUSTERS 4 hours ago by: Kevin Fraser The cast of Jason Reitman's upcoming GHOSTBUSTERS film is quickly coming together and THR reports that the latest member to join up is Mckenna Grace, the young actress who was most recently seen playing a 13-year-old Carol Danvers in CAPTAIN MARVEL. Details on the GHOSTBUSTERS sequel are sparse, but we do know that it will be set in the same universe as the first two films in the franchise. Scripted by Jason Reitman and Gil Kenan, it's been said that the film will focus on four teenagers, one pair younger and the other older, and that the focus will be on one family in particular. Mckenna Grace will play the daughter of Carrie Coon’s single mother, and the younger sister to Finn Wolfhard in the film, with production expected to kick off this summer. Along with CAPTAIN MARVEL, you may also recognize Mckenna Grace from I, TONYA, Young Sheldon, and The Haunting of Hill House. She's also set to star in the upcoming ANNABELLE COMES HOME. the latest installment of THE CONJURING franchise, as the daughter of Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga's Ed and Lorraine Warren.

I wonder what would have happened if the 2016 film was made, but was called something other than Ghostbusters like Ghoulkillers or Spirit Hunters. Maybe......Filmation's Ghostbusters?

An update: www.joblo.com/horror-movies/news/bill-murray-will-be-in-ghostbusters-3-if-jason-reitman-ever-bothers-to-askBILL MURRAY WILL BE IN GHOSTBUSTERS 3 IF JASON REITMAN EVER BOTHERS TO ASK 14 hours ago by: Mike Sprague As we all know, director Ivan Reitman’s son Jason will be helming the upcoming GHOSTBUSTERS 3 (or whatever they're calling it) and the new movie will go back to the continuity of the first two films. And today we have word that original GHOSTBUSTERS star Bill Murray says he's totally up for returning for this new film... if Reitman ever bothers to ask. Bill Murray went on to say: "This franchise paid for my son’s college. We made this thing. We are the caretakers of it. It’s a great thing and it was a really fun movie to make. It’s a real movie with some really funny stuff in it. Danny [Ackroyd], Ernie [Hudson], Harold [Ramis], Rick Moranis, Annie Potts — they’re some of the coolest people and they had real careers. They treat people well. They really understand what it is to be a movie actor. It’s a complete collaboration." Obviously, I would personally, love to see Murray return for this new film. But that kind of goes without saying, right? If Murray does take on a role in the new movie, he will be joining a cast that currently includes Carrie Coon as a single mother, with Finn Wolfhard as her son and the newly announced Mckenna Grace as her daughter. As for the plot, the film is said to focus on a family who moves back home to a small town. While there, they begin to learn more about who they are and the secrets of the town itself. That's all we know at the moment, but I'm thinking we can expect to see all of this tie back to the original team of Ghostbusters in some way. But again, who knows? I guess We'll find out come July 10, 2020.

I'm not sure how Ghostbusters High would work. I mean the first movie made it very clear that Venkman didn't believe in any of that shit. Or that Ray had never seen anything even halfway real before. And Egon, well, he's Egon.
It would basically be like the guys making their own version of some bullshit show like Ghost Hunters "OH LOOK THERE IS AN ORB.... OH GOD A COLD BREEZE!"
