So we tried to go see the 9:30 showing of 300, but it was already sold out, thus we went and checked out the Number 23 instead... wow THAT was a terrible movie. Darn near Van Helsing bad. Though I was laughing near the last twenty minutes or so.. I and the people with me were the only ones laughing. I think we annoyed those around us. D'ah well.
When we were leaving I said something to the effect of ' wow what a piece of shit' only to have my friends tell me, well it was horrible, but it wasn't THAT bad... Am I alone in thinking this was a steaming pile?

Thats sad, I was intrigued by the trailers. I was genuinely interested in seeing Jim Carrey play a serious role.

Carrey had a good performance, but it was so darn formulaic.

Huh? I'm still trying to figure out the math problem at the beginning of this thread. Is this like entering a contest and for those from Canada have to solve a math problem before winning?

I had a feeling it was going to be crap when I saw the first commercial for it.
Idiotic conspiracy theory + Joel Shcumacher + Jim Carrey's "Please give me an Oscar!" acting = bad times

Was I the only one vaguely reminded of Pi (The movie) from the trailers? The whole obsession with the number 23 thing instantly caused me to flash to the scene in Pi where Sal tells Max along the lines of "You're obsessed with seeing 216 everywhere you go, OF COURSE you're going to see it everywhere you go!"

I dunno...I wanted to see it. I thought it looked pretty good. My theatre, unfortunately, never got it though. I dunno, I'm a big Jim Carrey fan, and the movie just looked good to me.

I actually kinda liked it. I agree that the ending was lame though. I was hoping it's be something else other than the cliched/contrived "surprise" ending.

The math problem was wrong on purpose for two reasons
1) to perpetuate the me as caveman thing I find hilarious
2) to see if anyone would catch that it's the wrong answer.
Jim Carey was good in the flick, I just thought the plot was trying WAAAAY to hard, and much as it pains me I gotta agree with A.J, the 'twist' ending was just goofy. And that dog showing up everywhere- his last appearance had me cracking up laughing when I'm quite positive I was supposed to be in awe of the 'surprise'.
For a good serious Jim Carey flick though, look no further than Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. He's great in that awesome awesome movie.

I was trying to protect your fragile feelings. But you will be pleased to know that 23 is already one of the most tomatoed films of all time at Rotten Tomatoes.

I must agree that Van Helsing was one of the worst movies ever.
I wish I could wipe the memory of Igor running around with a cattle prod from my mind, but I can't.

I found The Number 23 so hard to follow that it was hard to enjoy it. I like to consider myself a pretty smart individual and I wasn't even stoned or drunk and this movie still made no sense to me. My girl liked it, but she probably pretended like she understood it to have one up on me. I mean, I got it, but it left me feeling like "that's it?"
I do not recommend this flick to anyone. Jim Carrey = great comedy actor. Sorry Jim, no Oscar nominees for you this go round.
