Crazy to think if he hadn't gotten injured, he would have defeated Kevin Owens for the NXT title at Beast in the East in summer 2015. Makes you wonder what he and Finn's trajectory would have been. I'll be honest I'm pretty sure that was always going to be Finn's spot. I don't know. Hideo's facial expressions and body language when they cut to him in the audience was a pretty easy read.

I'm glad he cut loose on the company. He was going nowhere fast in the company. Hopefully his next stop will be big for him. Dude's a legend, he deserves better than he's gotten in the WWE.

This news is wild, I'm actually watching 205Live right now where he main events against Tozawa. Aries, Neville, Enzo, and now KENTA 205Live is getting a reputation of being the Last Stop
Damn, Itami jobs to Tozawa then gets jumped by Daivari his run in WWE was a complete joke. Never a title run once he's better off with a fresh start elsewhere

That don't matter, what will is it will help the other markets out immensely and the workers, who will then be utilized better in better systems with great pay and benefits to go along with it. Really, them leaving isn't a bad thing anymore, and it might force WWE's hand on some guys to either put up or let them go. Helping other promotions, yes. Hurting WWE’s product, definitely not. They just have too much talent. And AEW is not offering benefits to wrestlers. In the after-rally press Khan said that they would offer full benefits to full time contracted AEW Wrestlers and also provide care if anything were to happen to any worker on an AEW show, so they are offering benefits. And good ones. Cody said he's making sure of it.

The regular wrestlers will not. They did say they will cover in-ring injuries much like WWE does, though.

I wonder where he will end up? Same place as Scott Dawson maybe? I just got done reading an article about how the Gay Community (!?) Loves Leon in re2 remake, so my mind is elsewhere... but anyone else find it odd to tweet about how stiff another man is while he sleeps?

I really don't think he realised he did that.

It wasn't just bad luck. Hideo was an innovator many years ago but by the time he got to NXT everyone was already ripping him off and he was just inherently less special. It was A LOT of bad luck and misuse though. I was there the night Riddick Moss dropped him on his head, he had no business being in the ring with jabrones like that. Dude was already beat to shit and didn’t really need to be doing the Florida loop, or only working with the best on the cards. If you bring in KENTA it is because the audience knows who he is, they just didn’t know what to do with him. And he really only served a specific role. Really just wasn’t a good fit the more I think about it.

I don't blame him. His time in WWE has just been 5 years of bad luck.
Also holy shit he's been there 5 years?

I think 205 Live's biggest issue with frustration is that it's become kind of a band-aid solution for them, where they put people who there's no plans for or who are coming off injury, just to keep them warm for a while. Those are always the people there's going to be issues for when it comes to tipping the scales on the more "I deserve better" personalities around there. The lower pay and lack of exposure only compounds the issue. As long as 205 Live remains in that weird limbo it's in and the show is treated as a demotion, it's always going to be a fire under the kettle.

I know a lot of people felt he lost a step or wasn't the same wrestler he once was, but his match with Marufuji showed that it was clearly more of a WWE thing than a him thing because the KENTA of old magically came back out for that one.
Hope whatever he does, he pursues happiness. Selfishly I hope he goes back to Japan and proves without a shadow of a doubt that WWE mishandled him and kind of bungled his entire run.

It's probably more that he and Marafuji would have existing chemistry, but I imagine he'll do better in Japan. Short of WWE feeding him don't-get-hurt pills, there's not really a lot WWE could do to prevent him from just having shitty luck and a career's worth of nagging injuries.

I haven’t seen the match with Marufuji, but someone in this very thread used it as an example that he HAD lost a step. So opinions are varied on whether he’s still great or not.

Never was a huge Itami fan but this video made me feel for him. Looks like he and Ariya were pretty good friends, no wonder they paired them for the end of Hideo's run.

I just watched the Rumble pre-show Cruiserweight match, and it does look like they were priming Itami for a feud with Buddy Murphy. He looked pretty good in the match, and had a number of one-on-one face-offs with Buddy.
But he can do more than that, I suspect, back in Japan. The WWE just has too many people, and even the more successful and memorable Nakamura is thoroughly lost in the shuffle.

I see a lot of posts here comparing him to Nakamura.
I don’t get it. “They’re both Japanese so that means only one could be pushed”.... what?
I often see it in threads about Del Rio returning too. “No thanks. They have Almas now.”
Cause they couldn’t possibly have two main eventing Mexican’s or something. It’s just weird man. They’re completely different wrestlers.
