15 years ago today, the final broadcast of Mystery Science Theater 3000 hit the airwaves. It was 'The Screaming Skull' with short 'Robot Rumpus.' Crazy that pre-YouTube pre-Shout Factory pre-Kickstarter it seemed the Satellite of Love wouldn't fly again. I wrote a bit about it for Go 95.3 - goradiomn.com/tbt-mst3ks-last-flight-on-sci-fi/Side note, it's a very underrated episode and if you haven't seen it, we have it embedded with Sci-Fi logo and everything.

I'm amazed that Danger: Diabolik was released as a DVD (the actual original series finale) a year ago.

I'm amazed that Danger: Diabolik was released as a DVD (the actual original series finale) a year ago. Kinda makes you wonder if that got negotiated, what's tying up the others. I wish I had a better memory, but a website tracked the likelihood of the remaining episodes getting official releases and explained how some films would never get a chance due to the license holder. We had a few surprises, like "Gorgo" and "The Puma Man", but the website deemed those remaining holdout episodes impossible, so Shout just posted host segments from those episodes and called it a set. Naturally, "Godzilla vs. the Sea Monster" was a no-go, but curiously, a whole library of films starting with "It Conquered the Earth" is owned by someone who has a vendetta against the series. As for Diabolik, it's an Italian noir comic series about an anti-hero who steals from the scourges of humanity for his own selfish gain, and it's still going on today, so that's why that was an issue.

The last broadcast was the first one I watched and I've been hooked since. YouTube made it possible later on to find episodes.

I'm amazed that Danger: Diabolik was released as a DVD (the actual original series finale) a year ago. Kinda makes you wonder if that got negotiated, what's tying up the others. All of it has to do with the rightsholders for the movies. There's a handful of movies that have never been on DVD, like Quest Of The Delta Knights and It Conquered The World, while other movies, like the Gamera and Godzilla movies, have had the rights slip out. The latest casualties have been Soultaker and The Final Sacrifice. Most times it's because the rights aren't affordable or are tied up somewhere else. Sadly, I have a feeling eventually a good amount of the episodes will end up going off the market unless the movies fall into the public domain. I feel like a lot of copyright holders will eventually want more from the movies than Shout will want to pay, and they'll slowly disappear. This board has a good breakdown of the 12 movies that have never been released, and the others that are OOP. forrestcrow.proboards.com/thread/6297/likelihood-shout-factory-release-list
