Progress is doing a card in Dubai next month. The news has not gone down well.
This is so weird, they say it's all independent but they're doing documentary that makes it sounds a lot like doing WWE style propaganda. The LGBT+ wrestlers seem to really think it's worthwhile but to me it's still sports washing for them to be fine as visitors while those living there don't have the same freedoms. But maybe they're right, I like to think they're well informed and didn't reach that position lightly. I don't know, it's complex if it really is independent but that sounds unlikely even if funding isn't quite direct.

Yeah, the documentary and the link with the Dubai Sports Council makes it all look dodgy as f***. Their statement is so arrogant and disingenuous too, as if their brand is important enough to drive any kind of social change.
Someone has pointed this out in a tweet, that their reasoning is basically identical to that behind the rebel cricket tours of apartheid South Africa in the eighties, which again, were technically private, but everyone knew what they were for and all about. Don't want to be too harsh on the talent who take the booking, they've got bills to pay and often they're being grifted as much as fans, but I'm not sure there's any excusing this from the organisers other than "They gave us massive bags of cash to do it."

The upcoming train strikes will be on the dates of Revpro and Eve shows either side of Xmas. Obviously can't go into the politics of it but after the pandemic it must hurt them. Already a hard sell at that time of year with the current cost of living.
Also seen a bit more of Millie McKenzie in tjpw and she impressed even more in-ring. Just needs a bit more presence/character.

2 shows in, and SovPro has the magic Progress used to have before everything went to hell.
Also, shout out to the rest of the Sterling Section because we started like 70% of the chants all night.

Too true! Everyone should seek out the Leon Slater/Ender Kara match as soon as SovPro puts it on Youtube, that was a thing of beauty.

In my eyes praise doesn't get much higher than you two liking it, what promotion is this?

This is Sovereign Pro Wrestling, in Manchester.
It's just wall to wall best of the northern indies stuff, and it's got Simon Miller and Steph Sterling as regulars.

Effy's Big Gay Brunch is having a UK edition this year (probably because the day before Eurovision in the same city is too easy to pass up)
One match is apparently gonna be Effy and Allie Katch vs Charles Crowley and Alexis Falcon.
Charles and Alexis are hyping it up by cutting a promo on Twitter in the middle of having sex. No I am not kidding. No I am not linking it.

Remember when Progress were rebuilding after Speaking Out and trying to improve their reputation? Yeah I mean, they didn't exactly start things off on a good foot when they revealed Paul Robinson was being an agent backstage because it leaked. Like, I don't want to say it was during the all-women's show but it was around that time which made it worse. Honestly, say what you want about Will, and you can say a f***ing lot, this is much more of a damning inditement of PROGRESS and TNT basically admitting we weren't the promotions we once were and, with a big weekend coming up in August, basically bowed down to someone's demands because it might sell a few more tickets to the Defy crossover show the day before All In. TNT, before being acquired by the new PROGRESS owners, actually had post-SO policies in place with a hotline, guidelines, the whole nine yards and were the only major UK promotion to have close to those for the longest time. All of that basically meaning nothing because Robinson was accused of doing what he did with a fan, the policy there to protect. OTT, who basically hasn't seen a controversy they're willing to take a stand on unless forced to, will probably end up getting Robinson back on shows and I'll have another reason not to go to them.

In lighter news, the UK edition of Big Gay Brunch is in Liverpool on Friday, because why not have a gay event here when literally every non heterosexual person in Europe is here for Eurovision?

Think I might got to Revpro and/or Eve's upcoming shows. Revpro's is saying it's 3pm-8pm though which is weird, anyone know what that actually means? Is it that doors open to merch selling ends and the actual wrestling is more 4-7pm?
Eve's hasn't sold well at all which is a shame given many WWE fans will be around. Not that I can blame anyone with cost if living and mitb tickets.

Went to Revpro's epic encounter last night and enjoyed it. I'd heard York Hall could be a nightmare but security and the bar was fine, could take drinks to seats etc. Seats were uncomfortable on the balcony but good view.
Ospreay Vs Slater was excellent. ZSJ and Breaks were doing things I'm not sure I've seen before. Everything else was mostly good but ott on ref bumps and shenanigans, the woman's match in particular was just dumb with multiple refs running off to follow a brawl to the back. The Great O'Khan isn't my cup of tea but brawling through the crowd and those shenanigans covered many of his weaknesses.
Went to Eve last week too. Travel issues/injury caused some card issues but Billie starkz Vs Nina Samuels and Miyu Yamashita Vs Rhio were great.
