Who knew Spring pro football would be such a perilous undertaking? Everyone. Everyone knew.

As someone who has followed indoor football for about 15 years, I wouldn't hit the panic button on this until we find out the players aren't getting paid.
That is a telltale sign of "Man the Lifeboats."

Correct me if I'm wrong (and I probably am), but don't most new businesses lose money in their first few years of existence? Sure, but it's been 2 weeks lol.

That is a telltale sign of "Man the Lifeboats." That's the point of this story. They weren't going to get paid. Its time to panic. Its only the 2nd week.

Correct me if I'm wrong (and I probably am), but don't most new businesses lose money in their first few years of existence? You're 100 percent correct. The United States Football League, the most viable threat to the National Football League since the NFL-AFL merger, lost somewhere around $60 million after its first two years and that was viewed as a success, because a majority of its owners, the commissioner, and the league's founder knew the league would struggle financially for a few years before it gained its footing. Now, the USFL eventually floundered for a number of reasons (rapid expansion, overpaying for players, mulling a move to fall) but its business model from day one knew that the league would be in the red for a number of years. The AAF just needs to stay the course. They've got a good TV deal, they've got some deep-pocketed benefactors behind them, and they have a model that works as a sort of potential feeder system to the NFL. The last thing they need to do is panic and slap some sort of Band-Aid on it that will only further the bleeding, like expanding in season two or signing some high-profile players to draw more eyeballs to the league.

Silver lining here: This gives an excuse to remember what may be the best tweet ever: As someone who has followed indoor football for about 15 years, I wouldn't hit the panic button on this until we find out the players aren't getting paid. That is a telltale sign of "Man the Lifeboats." They're way ahead of you: (Rovell followed that up by saying the players got paid today, after Dundon put in the $250 million)

Alright, then. Man the Lifeboats.
It would help if I read the entirety of the article. My bad.

Ah, the old TNA “we switched to a new payroll program” excuse. Those were the days.

Vince is going to end up owning both leagues somehow, isn't he? Still feel that this league game out of a disagreement with Vince on restarting the XFL.

Vince is going to end up owning both leagues somehow, isn't he? Yes, and it will be hilarious. There was a line at the end of the Netflix Fyre documentary where one of the idiots said, "I've always said, there were two Fyre Fests." when in actuality there were 0. This will be true when Vince buys out the AAF, and Vince owns two football leagues while they're both defunct. "The fate of the AAF...is in my hands."

The AAF and the XFL should been prepared to take a loss money wise for the first couple of seasons at less. It's going to take time to grow the fan base. Just like any new business, there no over night money success. AAF needs to stick with it because they have a good TV deal and the ratings have been good. So people are watching. For the most part the on field been solid. The real question how is Vince going to sell his product so fans will full those giant stadiums some of those teams are in that are in the NFL market.

These rich guys should buy inner city slums. When they gentrify, they will yield greater profit than burning money on a doomed foozball league.

The first game on Saturday only did 1.018 million viewers while the second did 0.424 million.
Yeah, stick a fork in it.

On CBS, how does that stand against CBS regular weekend programming?

On CBS, how does that stand against CBS regular weekend programming? Outside of college football and basketball, I don't think CBS shows much of anything on worth on Saturdays. Even with those ratings, they probably do much better than like, professional bull riding or infomercials that usually air on CBS Satudays out of season.

On CBS, how does that stand against CBS regular weekend programming? What time of day did they air? If it was during the afternoon, CBS stations don't really have regularly scheduled programming on weekend afternoons except sports. They don't air any of their sitcoms, dramas, or reality shows that early in the day. If those games were in prime time, the numbers sound like a disaster given how big CBS is.
