This maybe goes with the conspiracy theory thread, but seriously, I smoke like it's the cure for f***ing cancer, so I see a ton of Stop Smoking ads. Never Googled it. I love f***ing smoking. But this ad just through it over the edge. I was out shopping for my brother's birthday and as I was, bought myself a pair of Sakks underwear on a whim. What do I see as a Facebook ad suddenly? Sakks underwear. Again, never Googled it, just heard about it. How does it know??

I saw a post somewhere saying the person said Nike 5 or 6 times then all of a sudden they had Nike adds on there page. They’re listening, they’re adapting.

Yep, the Burger King by my house has been closed for months for renovations. It just reopened, and since I haven't had it in five months, I went through the other night.
And yep, I get home and my phone asks me how I liked the new Burger King. I go to Wal-Mart, it asks me how my trip was. It is a little weird.

Something similar happened to me recently. I asked my friend’s new girlfriend if she knew a girl I used to work with from the same small town and she said no. Couple hours later, that girls name showed up at the top of friend’s GFs People You Might Know list and she started freaking out

Was gonna say, pretty sure it's the GPS in your phone that's letting them track you. If you turn it off in your settings, they probably won't be able to ad-target you like that.

Some apps have to snoop and listen. I went to a bachelor party never even pulled my phone from my pocket and for days all the ads were Ashley Madison/Viagra/SuperDickExpandoCream
I assume hours of it listening to guys at strip clubs and talking shit on a party bus did it. One of the first things I always do with a phone is disable the location tracking.

Skynet knows all your secrets, instead of killing us all it's just going to blackmail humanity into subservience.
(it finally realised it cant kill john connor.)

Privacy is an illusion. We’ve all signed it away in unreadable user licensing agreements.

I saw a post similar on reddit yesterday and a user suggested it may be synchronicity as coined by Carl Jung to explain the universe and technology working in a metaphysical way to try to influence you or lead you in a certain way.
Or also, yea, turn your gps off.

The location services feature on my phone is incredibly dodgy. It only picks up where I'm going half the time or less.

Even with location off, your phone is listening. I've turned off the GPS every time I got a new phone. Yet ads would still somehow be fine tuned to something I had conversations about. I eventually accepted that privacy is an illusion and we carry a spy in our pockets everyday.

I figured out what happened. They asked for my name. I absent mindedly gave it to her. They obviously sold my name to whoever the f*** and the ad got targeted to me.
That’s how it picked one item out of 3 to ad target.

Feels like sometimes I’ll merely think about something and then see an ad for it soon after. Always has me suspicious.

Ok, so I ended up getting a Pepsi for the first time in like a week. Sure enough I get a Pepsi ad on my phone. Now I'm spooked.

I've noticed if I Google something on my desktop, it shows up on my phone's search memory next time I'm on it. Always weird.
