Wrestlemania V was the first WM I remember watching as it happened and I remember the Macho/Hogan build up, but I can’t quite remember what they did for Warrior/Hogan at WM VI. Without going to the network and re-watching, can anyone run through how they got to the match and any build-up before?
In my opinion, this was the “biggest” match of all-time. It was a literal dream match and 7 year old me was truly conflicted.

Its been along time but here’s what I remember they teamed on the january 90 SNME vs Perfect & Genius and one of them accidentally hit the other then they faced off in the rumble and so after that Hulk made the Ultimate challenge and Jack Tunney made it offical. The only other build I remember was Hulk facing Dino Bravo I think and When Dino & Quake double teamed hulk warrior made the save they then faced off and warrior ran away. Then warrior cuts a promo about hijacking hulk’s plane and killing everyone on it including himself. So just textbook babyface vs babyface booking.

Um, 1990 Royal Rumble, anyone? At one point, they were the only 2 competitors in the ring and they did do battle against each other.
EDIT: FOFF had it right, except the Royal Rumble aired before that SNME episode.

In retrospect the build to the rematch at Halloween Havoc 1998 was much superior. I mean where was Horace in 1990? Not even there. Did Brutus Beefcake get kidnapped in 1990? Not even!

If I remember, at the SNME in '90 where they teamed up, Warrior hit his press slam on Poffo and then hit the ropes to do his splash when Hogan tagged himself in to hit the big leg and get the pin for himself. It was a typical attention whoring Hogan move that always kept me befuddled as to why the fans thought he was a hero. Warrior looked pissed too, but went with it.

I’m surprised I was that close as I’ve never gone back and watched 1990 wwf.I was a huge warrior fan at the time and I was sick of Hogan but I never feel the need to rewatch their stuff minus Hogan/Savage 88/89 program.

How to build a sell out match without a McMahon being involved!

Seeing a recap of Hogan/Warrior at Rumble 90 is my earliest memory of wrestling. Immediately hooked.

I don't think the SNME predated the Rumble. The Rumble confrontation happened, and they just made the match out of that for Mania. Then came the SNME match; after that was pretty much one guy rescuing the other (usually from Dino Bravo, Earthquake, or both) and the other saying they didn't need it. Rinse and repeat. Besides that it was the coked out promos that built up the match.

In a trivia note, after they went nose-to-nose on SNME, they made up and posed together for the live crowd. A clip of that actually was used in a commercial for SummerSlam 1991.

At the time, I was not able to wrap my head around a babyface vs. babyface program like that where both guys stayed babyface. If Warrior was going against Hogan, then that meant Warrior had to be the bad guy (and therefore was going to lose). I kept expecting an Orndorff-style sneak attack to make it official.

He acted like a douche, just like he always did to his "friends" (Orndorff/Savage included), but nobody cared because Hulkamania and Gorilla Monsoon singing his praises.

One of the best buildups any wrestling company has ever done, honestly, and the match delivered. It's surprisingly ageless compared to a lot of the wrestling at the time.

Definitely the most epic match of all time in terms of sheer scope. The build up was incredible. Idk, I'd say Austin/Rock Mania X-Seven edges it. Mega Star vs Mega Star in wrestling's hottest period.
