Meh, if I want to grind for days to get special in-game currency in order to buy power-ups, I could save $60 and just play a mobile game. Also, this video popped up in my Youtube recs and I thought I'd share it. Language warning. CHARMELION! THAT'S ALL FOLKS!

You want bullshit restrictions, let's have us some bullshit restrictions! Someone's streaming the game and discovered badges now dictate how high the level of Pokemon you can catch is. So say for example you only have two badges, you can only catch Pokemon up to level 25 and if you run into a level 28 you just have to faint it or run.

Let's be honest on normal routes you never find anything over your badge level cap, unless there is a roaming legendary. This sounds like it was placed in because of the wild area, which apparently has really high level pokemon you can run into as soon as you go in it, and let's be honest catching level 50 pokemon before fighting a gym where they use level 20 pokemon or so on would be kind of unbalanced.

A lot of these decisions would have been a turnoff in the DS/3DS era; having them with a title that costs twice as much and after the national dex controversy really makes it seems like TPC/Game Freak are just throwing gasoline on the fire.

I cant wait for the reaction when someone run into a shiny and be unable to catch it due to this new system.

This really feels like a poorly planned game and the rushed cycle to always have a Pokemon game out each year(or almost each year) and they can’t dodge around it because they also lock in the merch cycle and plan out the anime in tandem is doing it no favors.
At this point I think it is fair to say this game absolutely needed another year of development to iron out a lot of aspects, and the usual production cycle combined with Gamefreak’s staff size has just finally caught up to them. Like they were seemingly struggling to keep up ahead of this with the 3DS games but now the leap from 3DS to Switch was too much for them to handle so fast.

Honestly it feels to me like they meant to spend another year on X & Y and were going to do ORAS on the DS first, but then the 3DS's success forced them to rush to that, and then they again had to rush to get Sun & Moon out for the 20th anniversary, and by now all of this rushing has just completely caught up to them and they're completely out of their element.
Though that doesn't excuse stupid shit like not being able to turn the Experience Share off anymore. Feels like a mix of being rushed and just outright poor game design that's getting worse.

When you have Mario, Zelda, Smash Bros, and now Fire Emblem going all out for their Switch games, it makes the growing issues of Sword & Shield appear even worse. Funnily enough the latter is almost starting to feel like something out of the 2015/2016 nadir period of Nintendo where their focus was completely in the wrong places and game directions very much out of step with what a lot of the audience wanted. When your decisions start reminding people of the stubborn insistence that brought us two screen controls in Star Fox Zero, that's a bad sign.

Probably, Pokemon's usually fun when it shuts the f*** up and actually lets you play it and this time around the game added the ability to skip cutscenes, so that alone probably puts this over Gen 7. But man I can't see a scenario in which I'm going to like this anywhere near as much as I like Three Houses.

I really don't know what they are trying to do with this game:
- Attempting to give Galar an open world feel, yet not bothering to come up with a game mechanic that has wild Pokemon in all locations have their levels match up to the player's current progression. - Constant hand-holding and forcing the Exp. Share to be on at all times yet pandering to Generation 1 players who are well into their 20s and 30s.
People have talked about The Pokemon Company giving GameFreak time constraints, but they are making some extremely bizarre decisions.

I guess at least on the handholding thing is that for f***ing once you can skip the wild Pokemon tutorial.

Datamine's underway and it turns out a bunch of Pokemon not actually in the Galar Dex are still present in the data, so looking like they might be available for future raid events or something, and also Alola forms are included for the Pokemon from there who are also in Galar. Specifically in terms of the Pokemon not in the Pokedex there's... {Spoiler}{Spoiler}{Spoiler}Bulbasaur Squirtle Mewtwo Celebi Jirachi Cobalion Terrakion Virizion Reshiram Zekrom Kyurem Keldeo Rowlet Litten Popplio Cosmog Necrozma Marshadow Zeraora Meltan Also in an odd but welcome retcon, Gardevoir's been added to the Humanlike egg group. Additionally they retconned are the evolution methods for... {Spoiler}{Spoiler}Leafeon, Glaceon, and Vikavolt, all of them now just use items. Some moves have been scrubbed entirely too - mostly Z-Moves and the starter ones from LGPE, but there are others, including one BIG one. {Spoiler}002 Karate Chop 003 Double Slap 004 Comet Punch 013 Razor Wind 026 Jump Kick 027 Rolling Kick 041 Twineedle 049 Sonic Boom 082 Dragon Rage 096 Meditate 099 Rage 112 Barrier 117 Bide 119 Mirror Move 121 Egg Bomb 125 Bone Club 128 Clamp 131 Spike Cannon 132 Constrict 134 Kinesis 140 Barrage 145 Bubble 146 Dizzy Punch 148 Flash 149 Psywave 159 Sharpen 169 Spider Web 171 Nightmare 185 Feint Attack 193 Foresight 216 Return 218 Frustration 222 Magnitude 228 Pursuit 237 Hidden Power 265 Smelling Salts 274 Assist 287 Refresh 289 Snatch 290 Secret Power 293 Camouflage 300 Mud Sport 301 Ice Ball 302 Needle Arm 316 Odor Sleuth 318 Silver Wind 320 Grass Whistle 324 Signal Beam 327 Sky Uppercut 346 Water Sport 357 Miracle Eye 358 Wake-Up Slap 363 Natural Gift 373 Embargo 376 Trump Card 377 Heal Block 378 Wring Out 381 Lucky Chant 382 Me First 386 Punishment 426 Mud Bomb 429 Mirror Shot 431 Rock Climb 443 Magnet Bomb 445 Captivate 456 Heal Order 466 Ominous Wind 477 Telekinesis 481 Flame Burst 485 Synchronoise 498 Chip Away 507 Sky Drop 516 Bestow 531 Heart Stamp 537 Steamroller 563 Rototiller 569 Ion Deluge 622 Breakneck Blitz 623 Breakneck Blitz 624 All-Out Pummeling 625 All-Out Pummeling 626 Supersonic Skystrike 627 Supersonic Skystrike 628 Acid Downpour 629 Acid Downpour 630 Tectonic Rage 631 Tectonic Rage 632 Continental Crush 633 Continental Crush 634 Savage Spin-Out 635 Savage Spin-Out 636 Never-Ending Nightmare 637 Never-Ending Nightmare 638 Corkscrew Crash 639 Corkscrew Crash 640 Inferno Overdrive 641 Inferno Overdrive 642 Hydro Vortex 643 Hydro Vortex 644 Bloom Doom 645 Bloom Doom 646 Gigavolt Havoc 647 Gigavolt Havoc 648 Shattered Psyche 649 Shattered Psyche 650 Subzero Slammer 651 Subzero Slammer 652 Devastating Drake 653 Devastating Drake 654 Black Hole Eclipse 655 Black Hole Eclipse 656 Twinkle Tackle 657 Twinkle Tackle 658 Catastropika 671 Spotlight 695 Sinister Arrow Raid 696 Malicious Moonsault 697 Oceanic Operetta 698 Guardian of Alola 699 Soul-Stealing 7-Star Strike 700 Stoked Sparksurfer 701 Pulverizing Pancake 702 Extreme Evoboost 703 Genesis Supernova 719 10,000,000 Volt Thunderbolt 723 Light That Burns the Sky 724 Searing Sunraze Smash 725 Menacing Moonraze Maelstrom 726 Let’s Snuggle Forever 727 Splintered Stormshards 728 Clangorous Soulblaze 729 Zippy Zap 730 Splishy Splash 731 Floaty Fall 732 Pika Papow 733 Bouncy Bubble 734 Buzzy Buzz 735 Sizzly Slide 736 Glitzy Glow 737 Baddy Bad 738 Sappy Seed 739 Freezy Frost 740 Sparkly Swirl 741 Veevee Volley

Hey, so on the subject of shit nobody wanted removed that's gone anyway, turns out there is no way to soft reset. Because I guess that just couldn't be achieved on the Switch and is most certainly not a thing in Three Houses.
