They're not even trying to hide which of the starters is getting the big push this generation. {Spoiler}{Spoiler}Cinderace's Hidden Ability is a renamed Protean and one of its signature moves, Court Change, moves all entry hazards to the opponent's side of the field. It's my favorite starter of the new batch so I don't really mind but still, not subtle. Also turns out the day / night stuff of this game is... basically completely f***ed. It's either always day or always night depending on where you're at and there's zero consistency with it, so like you can go into a building at night and sunlight will be pouring in through the windows.

So, uh... Turns out if you have a Lite, f*** you I guess. {Spoiler}Toxtricity's form is determined by whether or not you have your Switch docked when it evolves.

The arrogance of this company really is at WWE level. They should be publicly shamed.

No direct confirmation but there is some speculation that it may be whether or not your Switch is charging that determines it instead of whether or not it's docked. That would be less stupid at least but doesn't seem like anyone's actually checked for it.

You know at this point it really wouldn't surprise me one bit if they announced that all the missing Pokemon will be available through DLC.
"Hey, want those missing 95 Pokemon from Gen 1? You can start catching them for only $10!"
"Yay! I can finally catch a Mewtwo!"
"Oh no, no, no! The Legendaries are all part of their own special DLC Pack! You can have Mewtwo and Celebi and Arceus and all the rest for just $15!"
I'd like to think that Nintendo of all companies would be better than that, but their decision-making on this game so far is not inspiring a lot of confidence.

Why sell them to you for $10 as DLC now when they can sell them to you for $60 in a year? That's what's going to happen, they'll add the rest of the Sinnoh Dex and some other stuff in TemporalDiamond and SpacialPearl or whatever and then sell you some more in PokeySword and BashyShield, then wipe the Dex again for Pokemon Hot and Cold or whatever.

I doubt there would be any DLC to add any more Pokemon.
...that would require too much work for poor, poor Gamefreak.

Datamine's underway and it turns out a bunch of Pokemon not actually in the Galar Dex are still present in the data, so looking like they might be available for future raid events or something, and also Alola forms are included for the Pokemon from there who are also in Galar. Specifically in terms of the Pokemon not in the Pokedex there's... {Spoiler}{Spoiler}{Spoiler}{Spoiler}Bulbasaur Squirtle Mewtwo Celebi Jirachi Cobalion Terrakion Virizion Reshiram Zekrom Kyurem Keldeo Rowlet Litten Popplio Cosmog Necrozma Marshadow Zeraora Meltan Also in an odd but welcome retcon, Gardevoir's been added to the Humanlike egg group. Additionally they retconned are the evolution methods for... {Spoiler}{Spoiler}{Spoiler}Leafeon, Glaceon, and Vikavolt, all of them now just use items. Some moves have been scrubbed entirely too - mostly Z-Moves and the starter ones from LGPE, but there are others, including one BIG one. {Spoiler}{Spoiler}002 Karate Chop 003 Double Slap 004 Comet Punch 013 Razor Wind 026 Jump Kick 027 Rolling Kick 041 Twineedle 049 Sonic Boom 082 Dragon Rage 096 Meditate 099 Rage 112 Barrier 117 Bide 119 Mirror Move 121 Egg Bomb 125 Bone Club 128 Clamp 131 Spike Cannon 132 Constrict 134 Kinesis 140 Barrage 145 Bubble 146 Dizzy Punch 148 Flash 149 Psywave 159 Sharpen 169 Spider Web 171 Nightmare 185 Feint Attack 193 Foresight 216 Return 218 Frustration 222 Magnitude 228 Pursuit 237 Hidden Power 265 Smelling Salts 274 Assist 287 Refresh 289 Snatch 290 Secret Power 293 Camouflage 300 Mud Sport 301 Ice Ball 302 Needle Arm 316 Odor Sleuth 318 Silver Wind 320 Grass Whistle 324 Signal Beam 327 Sky Uppercut 346 Water Sport 357 Miracle Eye 358 Wake-Up Slap 363 Natural Gift 373 Embargo 376 Trump Card 377 Heal Block 378 Wring Out 381 Lucky Chant 382 Me First 386 Punishment 426 Mud Bomb 429 Mirror Shot 431 Rock Climb 443 Magnet Bomb 445 Captivate 456 Heal Order 466 Ominous Wind 477 Telekinesis 481 Flame Burst 485 Synchronoise 498 Chip Away 507 Sky Drop 516 Bestow 531 Heart Stamp 537 Steamroller 563 Rototiller 569 Ion Deluge 622 Breakneck Blitz 623 Breakneck Blitz 624 All-Out Pummeling 625 All-Out Pummeling 626 Supersonic Skystrike 627 Supersonic Skystrike 628 Acid Downpour 629 Acid Downpour 630 Tectonic Rage 631 Tectonic Rage 632 Continental Crush 633 Continental Crush 634 Savage Spin-Out 635 Savage Spin-Out 636 Never-Ending Nightmare 637 Never-Ending Nightmare 638 Corkscrew Crash 639 Corkscrew Crash 640 Inferno Overdrive 641 Inferno Overdrive 642 Hydro Vortex 643 Hydro Vortex 644 Bloom Doom 645 Bloom Doom 646 Gigavolt Havoc 647 Gigavolt Havoc 648 Shattered Psyche 649 Shattered Psyche 650 Subzero Slammer 651 Subzero Slammer 652 Devastating Drake 653 Devastating Drake 654 Black Hole Eclipse 655 Black Hole Eclipse 656 Twinkle Tackle 657 Twinkle Tackle 658 Catastropika 671 Spotlight 695 Sinister Arrow Raid 696 Malicious Moonsault 697 Oceanic Operetta 698 Guardian of Alola 699 Soul-Stealing 7-Star Strike 700 Stoked Sparksurfer 701 Pulverizing Pancake 702 Extreme Evoboost 703 Genesis Supernova 719 10,000,000 Volt Thunderbolt 723 Light That Burns the Sky 724 Searing Sunraze Smash 725 Menacing Moonraze Maelstrom 726 Let’s Snuggle Forever 727 Splintered Stormshards 728 Clangorous Soulblaze 729 Zippy Zap 730 Splishy Splash 731 Floaty Fall 732 Pika Papow 733 Bouncy Bubble 734 Buzzy Buzz 735 Sizzly Slide 736 Glitzy Glow 737 Baddy Bad 738 Sappy Seed 739 Freezy Frost 740 Sparkly Swirl 741 Veevee Volley Honestly, I expected the raid thing the moment they showed those off. A lot of the move removals don't bother me if they grant access to some of the better versions as a compromise, like how some stuff learn Jump Kick but not Hi Jump Kick, or etc.

And as if things couldn’t get worse, it seems like the game itself has a lot of technical and polish issues.
I’ve seen some clips of gameplay footage from the release build circling around the webs and things I’ve noticed:
- Textures are ass. These would have been ass textures even in the 3DS titles, but especially for a Switch game are particularly naff. And they aren’t just merely restricted to the already much memed bad tree and bush textures. - There’s an annoying and obvious shadow cutoff. The ends of shadows in the environment seem to just automatically get cut into a straight line depending on your proximity to them. - Character models pop in and out depending on your proximity to them, and unfortunately it isn’t even a generous distance requirement. They can pop in and out while the area they are in is very much still visible on screen. - There is a noticeable and jarring slowdown and stuttering going on during cutscenes. Made all the worse because there isn’t motion blur to mask it. No word on if this particular issue is in battles too but considering how the 3DS titles got all chuggy during battles while also having a bit of jank in cutscenes from time to time, not only is the potential for this to happen there as well, it could possibly somehow end up being worse again.
All in all just more signs the game was rushed. Gamefreak can’t keep this up, not with the size of their team. If Nintendo/The Pokemon Company insists on yearly Pokemon titles, Gamefreak needs a staff size in at least the 300s, I feel. 140-ish just cannot cut it anymore.

I feel like fans are more apt to these issues that GF. Sure there's a lot of garbage out there that plays to the grimdark or the parody aspect, but you get a Prism or a Uranium that focuses heavily on details.
And some people will likely yell at me for being too critical or being a "Gee Wunner", even though Gen II was my favorite generation, but I just can't for the life of me stare at this & go "how do they flub this?" A console game shouldn't be this hard to get external help, and while Game Freak may like their independence, are there people running out to buy Tenbo the Badass Elephant?
Ultimately, studios have to face a tough call. Either hire more staff but limit projects to what works or lose that independence but gain the ability to make avant garde titles for niche audiences?

Really if Gamefreak wasn't up to the task they should've taken a cue from Intelligent Systems and delegated. Like yeah, Three Houses is by no means a technical marvel - if anything SwSh's models probably look better than it does, though FE certainly animates much better - but it feels a whole hell of a lot more ambitious and more worthy of being the first HD title than Sword & Shield does.

I actually like many of the ideas and the presentation of the game.
But what will make me not buy is probably the "hey kids, see HOW AWESOME GEN 1 POKEMONS ARE?!
YOU WANT MORE CHARIZARD RIGHT?!"

Honestly the game's weirdly half-assing on that anyway since while there's the usual Gen 1 lovefest with the new forms and stuff, it's nowhere even close to having the most Pokemon present. It only has 61 of its Pokemon available (about 40% of Kanto's total, which puts it as lower percentage-wise than Kalos and Alola) while Unova has 92 available (an insane 59%, and even more than there are new Pokemon).

True, though Unova did get some love beyond that. {Spoiler}Galarian Yamask and Darumaka, a new Yamask evolution, and Gigantamax Garbodor, plus it's the only generation that got any of its side legendaries put in. I dunno, whole thing is just weird. And it all really goes to show just how cynical this whole Pokedex purge thing really is when you see just how thoroughly f***ed Sinnoh was, almost like they're holding back to sell it separately.
