Wonder what everyone's going to assume is going to be the third version this time around only for them to not actually do that in the conventional way since they haven't since Gen 4. My guess is Hammer. Gun is the common joke I've seen thrown out. I wonder if we're going to get anti-war themes or something. The was one of the games that had the library with it saying that ancient humans had cast aside weapons to do battle with pokemon as part of a covenant, after humans had hunted pokemon and drove them to the brink. Of course, like any Pokemon legends, they deliberately don't commit too hard to it, both because I think they like to keep their options open, and because it's a legend, anyway, and there's no reason to think the finer points wouldn't be lost to the ages. Besides, like the vagueries about humans and pokemon being one and the same, there's certain places Game Freak probably don't want to go without plausible deniability. In any case, a big part of the ethos of the series has always been about Pokemon battles being sporting, and definitively *not* a blood sport like a cockfight, with Satoshi Tajiri choosing "fainting" because he was uncomfortable with death being treated trivially in a game series like this. I could see them using the theme of weaponry and armor to tackle some of the difference between a competition and taking things too far, for power, greed, revenge, or otherwise. A theory i have seen is that the game will be about Progress(The "Sword") vs Preservation(The "Shield"). And since it seems to have a havy industrial revolution look to it, it is not farfetched

Jokes aside, would make sense, and I mean, it's definitely a subject matter dear to that region. Quite a lot of Lord of the Rings deals with that, for instance.

I'm really hoping the jump to far more powerful hardware amounts to more than just a graphics update. Not having the usual paper-thin post-game for first of a generation games (granted, ORAS and USUM have that too) would be nice, since there's really no reason beyond just laziness to not have plenty of extra areas and room to explore this time around, and while I can't claim to be a fan of them hopefully triples and rotation battles come back.

I mean, there are plenty of non-laziness reasons, but most of those would come down to time for development, design, etc. Still, I am optimistic, it looked like they were trying to put an emphasis on scale and design for the setting here. Here's hoping. I'm also hoping for some robust variety in accessible pokemon. One of the easiest ways to make me disinterested in exploring a region is to get to a route and have like 3 wild pokemon, and it's all shit I saw already two routes before. It did feel like S/M had that problem less than some previous entries, so I am hopeful.

It's the one game that's actually used the huge backlog of Pokemon to its advantage by having a gigantic chunk of them readily available, the game has an insane variety of team options.

This will be the first Generation in over 15 years where you can’t play the previous generation on the same system you could play the current gen on. I hope GameFreaks uses this as a new jumping off point and makes it feel like filling the National Pokédex is an attainable goal.
Don’t make it easy, but use the capabilities of the Switch to have a large variety available out of the box and use (free) story DLC and special events to make certain Pokémon available kinda like what SSBU does with the Spirit Events. Please don’t make me bend through hoops across multiple systems, and have to pay an extra fee, to try and fill my Pokédex this time.

I'm figuring this will end up being exactly like X & Y where it's not possible to finish the Pokedex until months after the game comes out due to them dragging their feet on Bank compatibility.

The switch can connect to the 3ds so in theory they could have you trade that way.

Or have a Pokémon Bank app that connects to your account online to transfer Pokémon over to the game from the servers.

Which, honestly, for me isn’t an issue. I have a Switch and a N3DS. But just out of principal, a game series with the slogan Gotta Catch’em All shouldn’t require 2 different video game systems to do so. I have no problem with having to buy multiple games to complete it, kinda always been Pokémon’s gimmick, but needing 2 systems is asking a lot of people. Even if the solution is just port the old games to Switch and find a way to connect them all is acceptable really.

Really I'm less concerned about being able to fill the National Dex than I am there BEING a National Dex. Cutting it in Sun & Moon was probably the single dumbest thing this franchise has ever pulled and I wouldn't be shocked if they leave it out.
Granted I feel like the decision to cut it was in part because of the decision to have a bunch of evolving legendaries / legendary stand-ins. It'd be a total drag to have to be constantly having to provide new places to get ahold of two Cosmogs, a Poipole, and a Type: Null to finish those families since you can't breed the things.
Speaking of the Pokedex... PLEASE do not bring back the Rotem Dex. I didn't mind it in SM but I constantly wanted the thing to shut the f*** up in USUM. Then again I pretty much constantly want everyone to shut up in Gen 7. It's like an entire game of Fi.

they said ultra sun/moon was going to be the last main series pokemon games on the 3ds when they came out. Yeah, they said flat out when they announced Let's Go. The next main line game was going to be on Switch. Yeah, but I mean I'm not even through those games yet, the last main game was like a year ago, the last side game wasn't even 6 months ago. Gen 3 and 4 were both like 4 years, slow down!

I mean, Ultra Sun and Moon were just "extended editions" of the same game so it isn't really a fair comparison. Heck, forget Pokemon Let's Go, they said there was going to be a new Pokemon mainline title back at E3 2017 so if anything, they started work on the thing right after the first Sun and Moon got released and it'd be 3 years.

Three years was also the amount of time between Black & White and X & Y (and because they weren't doing the simultaneous releases in Gen 5 that was only actually 2 years in the west) and X & Y and Sun & Moon, so a three year gap has been the new norm for some time now.

It was swiftly deleted, but Nintendo's Twitter jumped the gun and confirmed gyms are back.
Edit: Also turns out they just trademarked Armored Mewtwo, so that's probably confirmation of those spoilers from a few pages back.

Stupid prediction for fun: Grass/FLying swallow carrying coconut that knows Seed Bomb.
Or hell, an Exeggutor head, given they're basically coconuts.
