It's that time of year again! And for those of us who live in the NYC/NJ/Tristate area it's a chance to be a kid in a candy store with the number of shows going down on both sides of the Hudson and Harlem Rivers, since we can hit up a whole bunch of shows without thinking about airfare or hotel costs...hell, for some of us we're not even thinking about Wrestlemania tickets.
Let's make this a thread to compile where each of us are going to be, starting on Wednesday 4/3 and running through the weekend - which promotions are you checking out? Which cities, boroughs, or venues will you be hitting up? Any places you're looking to eat or grab a beverage, thus allowing for some mini-FAN meet ups? If you don't know what shows are going on, where they are, what times, etc., just take a gander here: www.voicesofwrestling.com/wrestlemania-weekend-2019-schedule-map/
Here's what I've got planned so far, will edit and update as I go along with planning:
THURSDAY
-Josh Barnett's Bloodsport, 4:30pm at White Eagle Hall, Jersey City, NJ - I live literally right down the block from White Eagle, and you'd best believe I am NOT missing a chance to walk five minutes down Newark Ave to see Minoru Suzuki and Dan-by God-Severn in my neighborhood.
NOTE - there's a fantastic tiki bar called Cellar 335 attached to White Eagle, so if my plans go the way I'd like them to I'll probably go there after the show for a bit.
-Impact "United We Stand", 11pm at Rahway Rec Center, Rahway, NJ - Impact's been solid in the past year, and their PPV cards have been their best, so I'd like to make a late night trek down the Turnpike to check 'em out. First chance I've had to see a lot of talent I love from Lucha Underground, too. Come to think of it, I never went to a TNA show before, so I guess they had to change their name and ownership for me to go.
FRIDAY
-CHIKARA "Once Upon a Beginning", 12pm at White Eagle Hall, Jersey City, NJ - I've never been to a Chikara show despite living in the Northeast my entire life, and for $20 it's a fun way to start a long day of shows. The 6 and 8 man tags scheduled look fun as hell.
-STARDOM "American Dream", 4pm at NYC Arena, Queens, NY - My cousin's actually going to Mania this year, but he's been really curious about joshi wrestling. I am, too; I'd love to subscribe to STARDOM's streaming service, and would love to use this as a chance to get a firsthand introduction, so I'll be heading there with my cousin and my girlfriend.
-Joey Ryan's Penis Party, 8pm at the Hilton Midtown, Manhattan, NY - I couldn't get tickets to either night of Joey Janela's Spring Break 3, but the King of Dong Style is hosting his first annual WM weekend event and I'm glad to take that as more than just a consolation prize. Got some balcony seats and love the look of the card so far.
-Blackcraft Wrestling "No Apologies", 11:59pm at White Eagle Hall, Jersey City, NJ - Screw it, I'm never going to get another chance to do four shows in a row like this, and I want to see Masato Tanaka in my backyard.
SATURDAY
-NJPW/ROH G1 Supercard, 6:30pm (preshow) at Madison Square Garden - My big event of the weekend. I've been to the big NJPW cards the past two years in Long Beach and San Francisco, and I'm dying to see this one.
Wherever I go, I'll be the guy with the shaved head (though perhaps a green Jameson cap), beard with no mustache, and who'll likely be wearing one of my NJPW or old school WWF shirts to each show.
Now, get to sharing, I want to get a beer with at least one of you maniacs before that weekend's done.
