Watchin this on Hulu. Has never seen it. It's interesting, not great but not bad. Billy Zane is good in the role&they play it like an old serial. Decent time. Feels like it came out just a few years too late. Like say it was in theaters in 1991, it'd probably be more highly regarded.

I never understood why Billy Zane wasn't a bigger star. Dude should have taken off after Titanic, at least.
Dude had some fun movies, like Sniper, Demon Knight, Tombstone, etc. Nothing spectacular, but he was good in them. Ben Stiller gave him a funny scene in Zoolander.
If he had blown up, I think he would be a great Lex Luthor, or really shining in the Marvel Universe. It's not too late, and he can land a part that really makes people take notice again. He seems like a cool guy too.

It actually did REALLY well on Home video... to the tune there had been talks of a sequel for like 20 years... with them pretty much only finally deciding to work on a reboot in 2014... I never understood why Billy Zane wasn't a bigger star. Dude should have taken off after Titanic, at least. . It's funny because THE PHANTOM is allegedly what made Cameron cast him in Titanic. Also your list forgot his debut role in Hollywood... MATCH in Back to the Future.

Yeah I've been callin for Zane to be Luthor for years. Titanic alone shows he has the right amount of charm&menace. Him in BvS would have improved things immensely.

Last thing I saw Billy Zane in was playing Captain Von Trapp in the Sound of Music at the Chicago Opera House.
He did fine. It was just weird that it was randomly Billy Zane.

It was written by Last Crusade writer, Jeffrey Boam, so there is an Indiana Jones style to it.

Fun story: Bruce Campbell was the #2 pick to Zane to be The Phantom

Campbell was 2nd choice on a lot of movies. Was almost Shooter McGavin too.

It was written by Last Crusade writer, Jeffrey Boam, so there is an Indiana Jones style to it. I actually think that might have contributed to it not doing too well. The story had a few too many Raiders of the Lost Ark beats in it. Like to the point where I think it felt too unoriginal. Like the jungle opening in a cave full of bobby traps. The leading man and woman having a former romantic history. An object burning a mark onto a map telling someone where to go next. I think they even did the map thing.

The Phantom and The Shadow were my two favorite movies when I was younger. My grandfather told me stories about listening to the original radio shows of both and it actually got me hooked on radio dramas, I still have the complete set of The Phantom and The Shadow both.

Actually, ever since I saw him in the Tales From The Crypt movie (one of the earliest R-rated films I got my parents to take me to) I’ve been thinking he could be a Luthor that was both funny and threatening.

Went to see it when it first came out. Even have the novelization kicking around here somewhere. I remember it being pretty good.
