Strong language warning
This should be available on Netflix some time in the next few hours. I hope this is a return to form for Ricky Gervais, the trailer looks pretty funny.

That does look pretty funny. I might have to check that out. I don’t know when that will be considering I just caught up with Stranger Things 2 last month. I have too much to watch and not enough time.

I'm a big fan of The Office, loved Extras and really enjoyed Derek(although it kind of dropped in quality near the end) so I'm looking forward to this. Hopefully it'll be good.

Overall it’s good and there were several bits in each episode that I laughed out loud at. But there are some similarities to Derek that bugged me, he was trying too hard to make people cry. The Office and Extras both had scenes that brought a tear to my eye but it didn’t seem as forced. These are the things that make me wish Stephen Merchant was still writing with Gervais and he could get him to dial it down a bit.

I actually think that those radio shows are the best thing Gervais has ever done. It was good to see a few XFM references make it into After Life. I really enjoyed After Life. I think he charmed me with that trailer featuring the tubby ginger kid!

It's great, something that really shouldn't have worked but did. Didn't find time to binge After Life yet, nice to hear there's a few XFM references there.

Yeah, those shows have helped me through many a work day too! I still find it hard to believe that they only had one upheld complaint from their show. Some of the stuff they got away with on a Saturday afternoon show is incredible.

Watched it all, really liked it and a great cast.
Also David Bradley is a national treasure.

No, the one that got them into trouble with OFCOM was when they were discussing how you're allowed to say "Cock" on the radio if you were talking about the bird, but not if you were talking about a penis. Bizarre when you consider how often they swore throughout the shows. The putting "Forest Gump" into a Wheelie bin story is the perfect example of 'how on earth did they get away with it?'

I like Ricky and enjoyed this but didn't think it was this tear jerker masterpiece people are saying it is. Some of the emotional scenes were very heavy handed and tried too hard.

I haven’t seen After Live, but I found most of Gervais’ post Office work to suffer from that. The Office had some genuinely heartbreaking moments, but they were subtle and real. His more recent stuff seems to scream,’THIS IS EMOTIONAL DAMMIT!’ Whether this series does it though, I can’t comment,

His more recent stuff seems to scream,’THIS IS EMOTIONAL DAMMIT!’ Whether this series does it though, I can’t comment, There are some real emotional scenes here, the videos he has of his wife do show that he was absolutely in love with her and she was his whole world. The stuff with his dad too is quite sweet but it’s the whole Ebeneezer Scrooge thing that by the end of the show everyone sees him as a great guy when for the previous three hours he’s been a total c*** to everyone. Gervais has almost become a laughing stock with his recent comments about his work. He claimed Derek was “the best thing he’d ever done” when it so clearly wasn’t and I don’t really think he believes that. Now he’s saying the same about After Life. It’s almost like he’s saying this stuff because he’s written them on his own, rather than his earlier stuff. As far as I know there’s no rift between him and Merchant but they’ve gone so far apart now it’s hard to see them getting back together.
