Is Taven any good? I only know him as the other the kingdom guy Mid-card at best. I've seen him put in some good work, but nothing that screams "top guy" even in the current state of ROH.

Is Taven any good? I only know him as the other the kingdom guy In the ring he's better than he's given credit for. He won't blow you away with classic matches but he won't stick the place up. Character and promos, ehh... to say he's hit and miss is being kind. He seems to be trying for a high school jock/bully that some suck up to but no one seems to take seriously. Oh and he uses the word "Melvin(s)" more that Hogan uses "brother"

No offense to Jay White but damn. What a steep drop from the heights of interest of what the IWGP title match would be when this show was announced. "Oh! Omega Vs Ibushi maybe? Holy shit!" "Tanahashi defending the belt on american soil? Possibly against Okada? I'm in!" "Jay White will defend against a person." f***ing agree. Like, I like Jay White a lot, but as soon as I saw him on the poster I just immediately went like "oooof" in my head.

Im sure it’ll be an entertaining show and everything but man. This thing was sold on like 4 different things that didn’t end up happening. People were legit talking about the show stealing the weekend’s headlines. Very low chance of that happening. A Jay White title defense isn’t going to have any traction in any news cycle anywhere.

Like, it's acceptable for a supercard, but unless he's losing the title or something, it's filler with a capital F.

Delirious' booking can be described as one step forward, two steps backwards

Delirious' booking can be described as one step forward, two steps backwards That could be applied to Ring of Honor before him, too, though. Ring of Honor: Pushing the people you loved a year or two after it'd have still been exciting, and that's when they're moving at double speed.

Looking at the card as of now we have: Three announced matches by New Japan (IWGP, IWGP Jr. & Tag Champs vs. Tag Champs) Two announced matches from ROH (Rush/Castle & Bully's Street Fight) Two more announced matches from ROH that are technically unofficial and spoilers {Spoiler}(Ospreay/Cobb and Lethal/Taven/Scurll) That is seven matches already, not counting the Honor Rumble preshow. Add in the strongly hinted Naito/Ibushi and Juice/Chase - now we're looking at nine main card matches. Are they just going to stick people like Tanahashi, LIJ, Suzuki, ZSJ, Ishii and Goto in the Rumble? Not sure how to fit them all on the main show, even if they add a multi-man tag.

Looks like Juice/Chase will be at the finals of the New Japan Cup; I'll bet that Juice is involved in some kind of Lifeblood tag match at MSG, in that case.

I think he may defend at G1 against someone like Fale

The main event is a new blood shaky heel. Not the biggest stars in the promotion putting on the largest match possible. Jay White in a filler defense. Again! No offense to Jay White. I like the guy, but goodness what a disappointment. But I guess you can do whatever you want when you sell out a show without promising a single thing in advance

I'm trying really hard not to equate Jay White with Jinder Mahal (since Jay's a damn sight better in-ring), here...

I'm trying really hard not to equate Jay White with Jinder Mahal (since Jay's a damn sight better in-ring), here... I mean. People criticized WWE for pushing an indian guy for the sole purpose of breaking into the Indian market. Is NJPW really doing anything different with their mega pushes of Jay and Omega before him?

People criticized WWE for pushing an indian guy for the sole purpose of breaking into the Indian market. Is NJPW really doing anything different with their mega pushes of Jay and Omega before him? People criticized WWE for pushing a guy who sucks into a position he didn't perform well in seemingly just to break into a market, with an abrupt rocket push and outdated "grr racism boo me" heel tactics that helped smother Smackdown's hype. Dude wouldn't have met the backlash he did if he had something other than "was Indian" backing the sudden push. Jay White has been primed from the beginning for a top level position, had a strong year of build and establishment to show the level he was at, and has been an effective heel the audience responds to as a heel and not a dude they hate, and his performance has received praise, may not universal, but he's got support. Similarly, Omega was a top level wrestler who put on acclaimed matches and had a long build to the top. You may not like Jay White personally but it's disingenuous at best to claim they're comparable decisions in a vacuum.
