Yeah, I was heartbroken hearing about this, even as it was expected. My heart goes out to his family, his friends, and his contemporaries (especially William Butler who did so much for John in his final days.) Truly sad to lose a staple of the horror industry.

To this day, toilets make me nervous because a Ghoulie might be in it.

Dammit.
John was so much more than just the Ghoulies. He was everywhere on the SF/Horror/Fantasy scene in the 1980s and 90s. Directed Friday the 13th Part VII and the original Troll. Did the FX for Re-Animator and From Beyond and a ton of other Empire and Full Moon films. Created the original Carnosaur prop that kept showing up in other movies for decades. The Garbage Pail Kids movie, notoriously. Even got to work on one of the Indiana Jones films.
RIP

I still love that he directed my second favorite F13 movie, too (right behind Jason Lives).

RIP. I have the poster of Friday the 13th: The New Blood hanging on my bedroom wall.

Wow, he had a hell of a resume. I'm really glad his Friday the 13th movie is one that I liked. RIP sir. Even got to work on one of the Indiana Jones films. It had to be the effect of Walter Donovan choosing poorly, yes?
