I loved the post-match celebration. It was such a good moment in wrestling with so many guys coming together to honor the champion, it was like the ending of a good TV show or movie. It was kind of a beginning for the new generation but I think it was also an ending in terms of Lex Luger's push and maybe even for Hulk Hogan coming to the rescue. It was a good pushing forward moment to end WM10 with, and a good mix of people. You had Bret, Vince, older guys like Savage & Gorilla, current & new guys like Razor and several of the babyfaces whose match was cancelled (a nice way to give them some owed face time on the show), the celebs, his "rival" Luger, and then Owen on the outside - in a great no commentary moment as he has to watch in spite as the guy he beat in the opening match ended up winning the title... They really need to bring back mass in-ring babyface celebrations. It makes a title win seem like such a major accomplishment.

A lot of people seem to remember the finish as Piper shaking the rope--he didn't, but a lot of people think he did. I believe even Bruce Prichard thinks so, so maybe that was the planned finish and Piper just didn't go through with it.

Within two months, Yoko was jobbing to everyone on RAW. I don't get why they had him lose like this

It was a bit lame - I don’t think Yoko ever did this ending again - but after the year Bret had had with losing the belt and being pushed out of the title picture by Hogan and Luger, I thought it was appropriate that he took his win under any circumstances.

Think the ending with Austin was the same, except he tore the top rope off as he fell.

Yokozuna, don't blame Canada, blame yourself.

The way I feel it seems like WWE wanted to protect Yoko and keep him as a credible threat. That is the only logical explanation. Unfortunately that went no where.

Pretty sure Piper did a fast count, too. Faster than a usual one, at least.

I don’t remember him ever getting pinned clean prior to 1996 and even then it was rare. He had already beaten Savage clean on multiple occasions and was the only guy in the company presented as the physical equal of the Undertaker. I’m sure they just wanted to protect him as an attraction. Also, since Bret was selling a severe leg injury, they almost had to do a fluke finish like this to protect Yoko. Plus Bret was always presented as being the smartest and most resourceful wrestler rather than a dominant champion. That was consistent with this.

WWF kept hoping Rodney would get his shit together and get on track, and he couldn't or wouldn't do that. Up until 1999, I'd put the emphasis on wouldn't. Guy just kept getting fatter, either out of spite or believing that it was the reason he was hired. Didn't he clock in at over 800lbs at one point?

Fans were chanting "Hogan" during the Luger match but Bret got the victory done. Bret was such an average looking guy that any victory he did felt so good for the fans to watch from his dedication after winning the h.w. title in 1992, to the WM X celebration to the family celebration at the Stampede In Your House. He made wrestling feel like the most legitimate sport and showed that anything could happen if a wrestler fought hard enough. I'd love to take Bret Hart straight out of 1994 and put him into a present day G1 Climax. Bret vs. Suzuki, ZSJ, Tana and Ishii would be amazing.

All of Bret's World title wins were a bit flat.
1st: Not televised. 2nd: Yoko slipped on a banana. 3rd: Whilst dead small packaged Diesel, was then beat up after the match. 4th: Snuck up on distracted Undertaker and put him over top rope. 5th: Michaels hit Taker in the head with a chair.
Still the man though.

They did the exact same finish as the Yoko/Bret match from WMX.

Didn't Diesel beat him the same way in 95?

In fairness though, the other option would be for Yoko to submit to Bret's sharpshooter. Though I wonder if Bret could've physically gotten the move onto Yoko with those large drumsticks of his. (Now that I think about it, I don't think Yokozuna ever lost a match by submission. He himself never 'tapped out' if you will.)
