Seems the Giants might be the high bidders on Castellanos. Anyone want to give me a brief scouting report? Is he legit? Flash in the pan? Will his 20+ home run power translate to SF if he indeed signs? Shows how much I pay attention outside of SF and the World Series because I’ve never even heard of him. Poor mans JD Martinez to an extent Has generally gotten better every year until his slow start with the Tigers before they finally traded him. He has the power for SF as he hit 26 and 23 HRs in full seasons with the Tigers and 11 in his half a season there. He had 16 HRs in 51 games with the Cubs this year He's only 27 so a 4 year deal will be getting him in his physical prime

Should a pitcher get 300 million dollars? When the Giants emerged as a mystery team for Harper last year I was obviously all for it.
With reports of a mystery team in on Cole, I’m not feeling the same way. Is Cole’s dominance really worth it? If it was the Giants I’d almost rather resign MadBum and then have room for two more 100 million dollar deals to guys. That much money wrapped in a guy that only goes every 5 days worries me.

That much money wrapped in a guy that only goes every 5 days worries me. $300 mill for a pitcher is a no for me. That is a big commitment for someone and I believe the Giants FO would rather give MadBum the $100 mill as opposed to being stuck with $300 mill 10 year contract Yanks are reported to have offered Cole a contract with more than Strausburg. I'm guessing it is around $275 mill and he will have the chance with incentives to earn $300 mill Yankees, Angels, Dodgers as the clubs willing to put out the money. Right behind them I think is Phillies and Texas who will put up money but won't go into a bidding war. If there is a surprise team i'd say it is someone like Minnesota or St Louis who would be willing to put up big money for a short term deal but I don't see it Yankees, Dodgers, and Angels are the teams willing to give up the record contract and I honestly take Dodgers out of the equation a bit because they talk to big players every offseason but don't sign them.

Didi Gregorious to the Phillies
His time was up and that came down to bad luck with the injury but he did a damn fine job with the Yankees

Giants also got a prospect in that deal as well
Smart play from both sides. Giants get a bat and a prospect and they have the room to eat a contract for a year. Angels cleared cap for Rendon or Cole

Didi going to Philadelphia for 1 year/$14 million. Definitely a "reestablish value after an injury" contract and Philly took a flyer on him.
Delin Betances seems willing to take a similar kind of 1 year deal.

Good move for the Phillies. No such thing as a bad one year deal and Didi is a bounce back candidate.

$7 mill for one year seems to be the range everyone expects which is why the Rays are considering Delin I wouldn't be surprised if they take a flier on Delin too meaning the Phillies. Make them Yankee Lite

Official: Nationals resign Howie Kendrick and Yan Gomes.
Rendon, Scherzer and Strasburg make The MLB’s All First Team while Soto makes the All Second Team.
Feels good.

Giants take on Zack Cozart’s bad contract to essentialy buy Will Wilson, the #15 pick of last year’s draft from the Angels (#4 prospect in their system) . (Cozart+Wilson for PTNBL)
Sign Kevin Gausman to a one year deal. which seems very Drew Pomeranz-like. A (potentially?) high-upside arm coming off struggles who hopefully regains value and just gets offloaded at the trade deadline.

As much of a reminder of the 2019 World Series as they'll be, you don't want your franchise to be too wedded to last year's postseason heroes. Sometimes it's better to cut ties with the past to preserve the future. I think back to the Red Sox winning the 2018 World Series thanks in large part to impending free agents Steve Pearce and Nathan Eovaldi, and rewarding their postseason heroics with new contracts. Then, in the follow-up campaign, Pearce hit .180/.245/.258 in 29 injury-plagued games and Eovaldi struggled to a 5.99 ERA in only 67.2 innings. I'm not saying Kendrick and Gomes are destined to be busts, and they aren't making anything resembling significant money, but Kendrick is entering his age-37 season and Gomes is coming off a .223/.316/.389 season. I wouldn't expect them to replicate their playoff performances in 2020. At best, they'll be bench players getting sporadic playing time. --- And speaking of playoff heroes, David Price's name appears to be drawing interest on the trade market. According to Jeff Passan, several teams are interested in dealing for Price, but the Red Sox would almost certainly have to kick in cash to defray the remaining $96 million left on his contract, which runs through at least 2022.

Yeah, seeing the number as a real thing in front of me that seems absurd for a pitcher. It’s almost absurd for a position player but at least they do their thing every single game.

Sony actually owns the trademark for "The Show," so if Sony wasn't involved they'd have to change the series name. I hope they don't f** that game up That and 2K was legit the top games in the market and 2K got f***ed up this year, I don't need MLB going the same way The only other baseball game out there is RBI Baseball and that has screamed "budget game" for years. I am hoping that the move to multi-platform doesn't mean a sacrifice in quality as I've been dying to play The Show for years but can't justify paying money for pay for a PS4 (or soon a PS5). I'm an Xbox guy and a Switch owner.

I get what you're saying, though Kendrick was too good last year not to bring back and Gomes, even when he doesn't hit, is good defensively and a strong backup.
