So Verdugo, Pederson and Maeda for Betts, yea Dodgers win that trade. Curious what you feel a fair value trade would be for a one year rental of Mookie? The Dodgers are a team that can keep Betts...I just think trading a top 5 player for pennies bon the dollar to avoid luxury tax when you're the Boston Red Sox is pennywise and pound foolish.

So whats a fair trade for a one year rental and salary dump? The whispers of Mookie not wanting to be here long term have been around for over a year. If you could have traded him a year ago you could have gotten a haul.

He's not Mookie but I think people are selling Verdugo short here. Pretty good player.

The Dodgers made this move to counter the Giants blockbuster signing of Wilmer Flores.

Luxury concerns are a bitch These other big market teams seem to give f*** all about it.... Not true Yankees have spent the last few years being "cheap" so they didn't cross that threshold so fast. Their is steep penalties for passing it 3 years in a row Cubs and Red Sox are now trying to dial it back as they have players they have to pay while also having big money players already on the roster

This trade apparently clears about $58 million in salary. So watch Red Sox management turn around and spend it all on some bulls**t like George Springer and James Paxton next winter.
Seriously, if the Red Sox want to go this route, then blow it the hell up. They're not a playoff team as currently constituted. Trade J.D. Martinez. Trade Chris Sale. Trade Nathan Eovaldi. Trade Jackie Bradley Jr. Blow the whole thing up, lose 100-plus games, stockpile prospects, and try it again in three or four years.

I guess you've got to give Red Sox management credit for something: they stuck to their guns. When the rumblings of trading Mookie Betts for financial reasons first surfaced, just about every Red Sox fan was like, "No, what the f**k are you thinking? That's a really f**king dumb idea." And they stuck with it, despite about 97 percent of the fanbase absolutely loathing the idea. Feels like WrestleMania 32 all over again.

And then proceed to win a championship like when they spent bullshit on Shane Victorino and Mike Napoli That 2013 team was a miracle. A beautiful miracle, but a once-in-a-lifetime team. You can't rely on building teams through free agency and getting production out of a 38-year-old closer, 37-year-old designated hitter, 36-year-old catcher, and two 32-year-old outfielders. We saw what happened in 2014 when they got the band back together and all those players who had career years or borderline career years regressed to the mean. That team also had Dustin Pedroia still in his prime, Jacoby Ellsbury in a contract year, one of those really good years out of Clay Buchholz, and a bulldog ace pitcher in Jon Lester. Aside from Rafael Devers and Xander Bogaerts, who can the 2020 Red Sox count on to have an All-Star year? Chris Sale is a dominant ace but health is a question. Andrew Benintendi regressed significantly in 2019. There aren't any stud prospects in the pipeline. Again, the Red Sox should just go all-in on a rebuild. Replicate the Cubs of the early 2010s and hit rock bottom, because there's nothing they can do now to surpass the Yankees for the division crown.

Sox werent winning it this year. They won 84 games with Mookie, they're miles behind Yankees. They got away from David Price, thank god. Not going to pretend they're better now. But if either side wasnt willing to go long term than it had to be done.

That might be the worst team in major sports history to win a championship, and I mean that. Especially when you need to win multiple series unlike football. Still counts though. Maybe the Sox eat it hard and blow it up mid season. If they restock their farm and have roughly $100M to play with how long are they out of it for?

Ehh I think ownership itself deserves a bit of benefit of doubt Multiple times through multiple GMs they have been able to tear it down and build it back up. It may not be pretty but they usually get the job done Where they crucially f***ed up was not trading Mookie last season. My main gripe about Mookie despite me thinking he is one of the top 3 players in the league, outside of a town like Boston I can't think of many places where people will pay to watch him play. That could have been worked out if Mookie was willing to get off $400 million

Dodgers can't keep cutting it close, every year they acquire a star player and fall flat They have to do this but they better be prepared for the shit storm coming if they miss the WS because it is WS or bust
