I'm assuming that if the title of the fim was Hellgirl then all the bad reviews would have been by white, male trolls or something like that. That doesn't work here mate. the debuting score of 9 and current 12% is from Critics not fans. and Captain Marvel clearly was review bombed by trolls originally, not saying all of them were or that people gotta like it but... literally a bunch of the comments were Beep boop I'm an automated response or something to that effect. 57,000 of those automated "reviews" were removed. As for this movie, the trailers looked like utter dog shit, so the fact that the movie is also utter dog shit comes as no surprise.

I wonder how many of those edgelords are gonna try and latch onto this movie in an attempt to lower Captain Marvel’s BO earnings, even though it makes no difference?

Man. Yikes. With a side of oof.
I thought it looked promising. I’m assuming Hellboy is done. For a while?

Just got back from it. Third act is pretty weak and where the reshoots really show, but it’s definitely a worthy successor to the Del Toro films and a much better movie than the reviews suggest.

Honestly, I thought something seemed really off about the initial trailer for the movie. Not only did it seem like a cheaper version of Del Toro's movies, it felt like the general charm was missing and the jokes fell kinda flat to me. It's interesting to see that there might have been some fire to that smoke.
Honestly, I like Neil Marshall tremendously. I like David Harbour. I like most of the talent associated with this. It seems like mixing them together didn't go well though. If you can say that it feels more like a Sam Raimi movie and that the biggest problem is that it lacks any kind of heart or center...that's a really big problem, because both the Hellboy series and a lot of Raimi's movies really do have hearts to them.

I saw this for myself last night.
Hands up, I could not have been more wrong about this, serves me right for blindly hoping it would be good as I like the original movies a lot.
The reviews are correct, it's got no charm at all. It has an R rating, which is great but it has violence for violences sake, same with the language. As a big fan of the franchise and of the original movies I was disappointed.
Secondary villian is way better than the main one, unsatisfactory resolution to that. The chap playing Hellboy does a good job with what he was given. Also, worst CGI I have seen for a while, with blatant green-screening.
To sum up, while there is nothing inherently hateable about the movie, it's a below average action flick and a terrible Hellboy film.

Good thing they didn't let the visionary, academy award winning director who's had two critically-acclaimed goes with the character already and openly wanted a 3rd shot to do the movie, huh? It might have turned out poorly.

It might have turned out poorly. I get their logic. The first 2 didn’t exactly do gang busters at the box office, and made most of their profit on home video. del Toro wanted a $120 mil. budget for the 3rd, which would’ve been a massive financial risk given performance of the previous 2 combined with it being a sequel to an 11 year old movie. I think the budget for this one was $50 mil. or less, so way less of a financial risk. Plus, while the originals have a following, it’s not like they’re some beloved classics. If I’m the studio exec, and I have to decide between reboot the series or do the final chapter in a 10 years dormant series, I’m probably rebooting too. And I love the first 2, but the reboot made sense from a business perspective.

Movie did about $5 million for Friday, looking like a weekend finish around $12 million. Studio was projecting about $20 million so yeah, this is a flop.

Should have just given Del-Toro the money to finish his story.
Doing that instead of the reboot I think would have turned out better...yea financial risk and all but u got del-toro and it is the 3rd movie...so u get the dedicated fans back and u get some new eyes and also word of mouth is huge nowadays...it is what propelled the first guardians into being the hit it was even though next to no one knew who the hell the guardians of the galaxy were outside of comicbook fans and that was projected to flop.

Honestly it really wasn't. It was projected to handily take the August opening weekend record with an $80 million opening weekend, it just ended up surpassing that expectation with $94 million. It was more successful than expected but it was always projected to be a huge success.

It was the first of the "This will be Marvel's first flop" that went to like every movie afterwards...

I read that there weren’t any press preview screenings before the main release. That’s never a good of any film.

Milla Jovovich being in this was big red flag. About 95% of her filmography is complete garbage, and I say that as someone who likes her and thinks she's underrated as an actress. She just has the Christopher Lee-like tendency to not be at all picky about what she stars in as long as the paycheque is good.
