Following the Observer rewind on Reddit (in particular WCW into the 2000s) Vampiro actually took several nasty bumps that he claimed f***ed him up. According to rumors at the time people believed he was faking to sit out his contract and get paid as it was believed some were doing at the time. And I I don’t remember what, but something Dave notes proved Vampiro was being honest and IIRC it led to his WCW venture pausing.
Anyway. Man. I was such a mark for Vamp when I was a kid. Was great to meet him at LU tapings. Guys a bit of a Ham, but above anything I f***ing love his spirit man. We’re all bound for different things and he’s going forward with a smile on his face it seems. And a positive attitude. That’s great.
My grandma has been battling Dementia for years now..so..I just feel for him man. And his fam. But again I find his spirit so admirable.

Vampiro said he had Brain trauma sometime ago which may have been a contributing factor.

Someone really needs to help Vamp write his life story while he can still remember it. Even if it's 50% fiction it'll still be just about the most interesting, crazy wrestling related story ever put to paper.

Unfortunately even when his memory was intact and his cognitive functions were intact, he had a tendency to lie a lot in shoot interviews. Not to shit on the guy but Konnan said years ago that Vamp lived on the same universe Teddy Hart lives in, they see reality in a different way. And Konnan said this like ten years ago. Jericho also detailed Vamp’s hilarious lies in his first book.

As some others, I have a family history as well. Glad to see he's optimistic, but it is a difficult road ahead and sad for those that go done it with him.

There is no cure. Doctors cant even figure out what causes it. Its an equal opportunity killer. My granddad was a pastor, lived a clean life, and it took his last 10 years of his life away. So lifestyle doesn't have an impact. Heres to minimum suffering.

Shit this is awful. I love Vampiro. I didn't know much about him until Lucha Underground, but he made me a huge fan. One of my favourite commentators ever and along with Don West the guy who enjoyed doing it the most.

As many others have said I also have a family history of this. It is my biggest fear and at 37 years old I already have extreme memory issues from time to time to the point co-workers have even noticed and commented on it. Yet for whatever reason I can tell you random wrestling facts from 30 years ago.
This is made even more sad by the fact that I saw Vampiro do a really cool thing after a Lucha Underground taping last year. A guy dropped his brand new L.U. hat directly in the gutter after the Ultima Lucha 4 taping. The hat was covered in mud and basically ruined. Vampiro saw this and asked the guy how much he paid for the hat. The guy said $25. Vampiro reached in his suitcase and said, let me see what I got for you. He pulled out a L.U. jersey which was the most expensive piece of merch they had that day and handed it to the guy. We all thought it was the coolest thing ever and my view of Vampiro forever changed that day. Vamp also brought his new fiance into the ring and introduce her to the crowd while he chugged a beer and the DJ played Jump Around by House of Pain because as Vamp told us, he was Irish and it was St. Patrick's day LOL. So sad to hear this, all thoughts and prayers go out to him and his family.

I remember seeing Vampiro for the first time in WCW and thinking that he was one of the coolest wrestlers that I'd seen in a long time. I hope he can enjoy many more good years.

f*** f*** and he’s not even 50 this ain’t fair. And he never had a hard hitting style of wrestling, what happened? The really sad thing, speaking from family experience, is that it might not even be from the wrestling. It's a low chance, but some people start developing the symptoms in their 40s. It's a horrible, heartbreaking thing that can just ravage a family, but it can happen. With my seizures, I've had moments where I was talking to my brother, and had no idea who he was, mid-conversation. Eventually, I realized that I was talking to my brother. I've already had the thought that I might have this diagnosis, someday. Hopefully, he can be treated well, and his doctors will be able to help him.

The thing he needs to do now is make plans with family for his future care and setting up his affairs and making his wishes known for what he wants to be done when he can't make decisions for himself. It makes things so much easier for family and friends.

He talks of Alzheimer's as if it's a cancer with the way he talks about "fighting" it...which it can't.
I feel especially for those that are near and dear to him especially. A cousin of my Mum is going through an ordeal looking after her mother, and is now resorted to putting her in a home. (this aunt is her late 60's it should be noted.)

Yeah there is no reversing it or treating it, the only thing you can do is try and slow it down. The best thing for him to do is while he is able to make discussion, get them down and tell his family what he wants to be done. As said above. Be ready and make it easy for his family by having them know now what he wants things done while he can still decide those things.

And he never had a hard hitting style of wrestling, what happened? His life outside the ring had some pretty nasty patches throughout it, so that might have contributed. He's had his fair share of concussions over the years. Especially during the 90s era where guys would just keep wrestling after sustaining one, and during his heyday in Mexico, that meant several shows per day.

This just really makes me think of his last two matches in WCW. I know that's a long ol' time ago now, but still...get a concussion at the PPV, wrestle the very next night, get another concussion.
It really is different times now, thankfully. I wish him absolutely the best in dealing with it.
