Not intentionally. I messed up a whammy bar on my first Guitar Hero controller from (fake) rocking too (really) hard. It was a quick fix, though.
Microsoft aside, I think I've owned just about every first party controller for every console from the late 70's to today and that one Guitar Hero controller aside, I've never broken one.

One Time I was playing NFL 2K1 (the one with Randy Moss on the cover) on Dreamcast and through the controller down and broke the little joystick. That was the only time though.

The closest I came was when I was trying to beat Seth with Dan in Street Fighter IV. I threw my controller in frustration and I'm glad the room was carpeted, so it was okay. If it was a solid floor, it might not have gone so well lol. Man f*** that guy. He was brutal Seth might have caused me more rage then any other game I’ve ever played. And I started gaming in 1990. Used to have a punching bag hanging in the basement that was about 98% for after playing SF IV

Yeah I’ll cop to it back in my PS3 era. When I would get frustrated I would throw it one too many times and eventually I broke two of them
Never did it with my PS4. I’m not Richie Rich ha
Though my friend has playing me at Pro Evo. Just the once, I think he learned his lesson when he had to buy a new one

When I think about it, I've thrown controllers across the room in frustration several times, but can't think of a single instance where I've actually broken one that way.
When they break, it's usually from normal wear.

Spilled soda on/in a GameCube controller. Worn down the left analog stick on a 360 controller so much that there's a perfect match for my thumb.

When I was about 10 years old, I whipped a NES control pad at the wall so hard it was embedded in the drywall. The controller was fine though, and that was the day I learned to spackle. After that I'd generally just drop it and walk away when I'd get pissed.

If I had when I was younger my parents would have taken my video games away, and grounded me. Once I was a teen I didn't cause if I had I would be the one buying a new controller.
It's odd cause I had trouble controlling my temper. But instead of taking it out on my stuff I would go out to the workshop and use the punching bag till I calmed down.

FIFA 19 is heavily scripted. That game is so infuriating. I actually stopped playing it since it was absolutely ridiculous with the amount of shots that hit the post.
I've never broken a controller, but I've got pretty pissed off at a game.

How about a controller "destroying" me? I played the NES so much when I was younger that I have fairly noticably callus in my palm of my left hand, and it's well over 25 years ago I last held one of those controllers.

Sadly yeah. You feel like a complete asshole even before the controller leaves your hand.

Wore down a couple SNES controllers, but never destroyed one.

I managed to destroy a controller AND a PS2 at the same time.
I was playing "Red Dead: Revolver" on an old PS2 that had been given to me. I had played through this one showdown or whatever a bunch of times, and no matter how well I placed my shots, I just could NOT win. I eventually lost my shit and threw the controller at the PS2. The controller shattered and the PS2 stopped working, never to work again.
In my defense (kinda), that PS2 was on life support as it was. I had to tape the power cable into a specific position or else it would just randomly turn off. It had several other issues as well. I really just put it out of it's misery.

Closest I came was Career mode in WWE 2k18. I just straight quit playing the game and waited for this years due to the Money in the Bank stipulations...Last time I legit broke a controller was playing the game Stuntman...

Came close with MK2 with Shao Kahn being the cheapest final boss in any fighting game. Usually it was always the old games that made me get exceptionally angry.
Probably because those games were harder and you found a lot of your success based off of trial and error. A lot of games these days don't push me to the point of anger. I typically just shrug my shoulders, turn it off, and go find something else to do rather than allowing myself to get angry about it.

I never had a problem with Shao Khan... granted that was because Motaro always kicked my ass... the one or two times I made it past him I beat Shao Khan with little issue.
