Been out drinking 2 nights on the trot now, I don't think I have the energy/money for a 3rd night. My head feels like it's been drilled by screwdriver. Oh well, I've made some new friends getting pissed up I suppose.

I feel ya, man. I hae to work in about 90 minutes, and I really hope I can make it.
Usually a glass of water and two aspirins before sleepytime works for me; I didn't crash at home last night so unfortunately I couldn't and woke up feeling like ass this morning.

Working in a bar/restaurant for several years, I can also say that hydrating WHILST drinking is equally as important and hydrating before drinking.
Eating also helps a lot too. Your body depletes a fair amount of nutrients processing alcohol, and snacking throughout the night not only keeps you on an even keel (depending on where that sits with you), but helps your body maintain a level of nutrition. Eating after is doubly good, so long as you're not one of those types who buys half the Taco Bell menu. I'm in the habit of making myself hash browns, a vegetarian omelette with plenty of green veggies after a night of boozing.
Which liquors you consume also has a serious effect on your hangover. Darker liquors will affect you more than lighter ones due to the higher amounts of neurotoxins and distilled modified sugars in them. Beers have a much more moderate amount of alcohol, but since people assume they can drink more of them than they can hard liquor and be less drunk, it really evens out. Lighter lagers will give less hangover than ales, for the same reasons.
Mixers also effect it heavily. I love bourbon and Coke, but I limit myself to 2 or 3 a night anymore and switch to a lighter beer or vodka drink. The amount of sugar in the cola, plus the caffeination and carbonation contribute to dehydration, which has a reasonable effect on your hangover.
Other toxins going into your body also contribute. Cigarette smoking is a great way to insure that you feel horrid the next day, since it reduces the oxygen in your body, and oxygen is a necessary component to process alcohol. This is compounded by the fact that most people smoke more cigarettes when they're drinking. Cutting down on your smoking when drinking helps significantly.
I'd advise against taking Advil or Tylenol to stave off a hangover in the morning. Yes, it helps the hurt factor, but it also tears hell on your liver and could potentially lead to much worse liver problems in the future.
That oughta help all of you out in the future. I adjusted my habits a couple years ago, and reduced my hangovers quite a bit. Then, this past November, I quit smoking, which has all but eliminated my hangovers, except for the rare occaision when I go way overboard (i.e. old friends in town, friends back from overseas military duty, etc).
