I've said this before and I'll say it again, the reason why Man of Steel and Batman V. Superman (and Suicide Squad for that matter) sucked wasn't because they were too "dark and gritty". They sucked because they were poorly produced and realized. You can make a great dark superhero movie, you just gotta do it right. they also sucked because the person behind them didn't have any respect or understanding of the characters that have existed for almost 100 years... Hell you can make a Dark Superman movie but to do it you need to have Superman be the ray of hope in the dark world... not... whatever the hell Snyder thought he was. Hell, Superman TAS did that a few times pretty well. Like when Darkseid and Apokalips invaded Earth. That was a really dark storyline, but Superman remained true to himself.

I kind of excused aspects of it in Man of Steel since I saw that as Clark becoming and embracing being Superman after going through a self-discovery...but then we get to Batman vs Superman and the entire movie falls apart because the title conflict is between two dark and broody characters rather than two opposed ideologies/identities/etc. It was like Man of Steel was for nothing. But yeah, I hope DC keeps doing what they've been doing lately: tailor each film to the character you want to present. Some will be more violent, some more lighthearted, some might be genre-bending, go ahead and run the full gamut. Then if sometime down the road you want to do a team-up movie of some kind, I honestly think it might be more interesting (though risky, too) to combine characters from different style stories and movies.

I just want DC to continue to make good movies. IMO, they are on a bit of a roll with Aquaman and Shazam. I really enjoyed Wonder Woman as well. Justice League was a mess, but I liked it more than most. Wonder Woman, Aquaman, and Shazam has shown that it can be done.
