Good. I've been hoping for superhero movies to take James Cameron down since he started shitting on them like last year. Whiny old man gets what he deserves.

Good, now watch when Avatar beats it in the re-release towards Avatar 2. A lot of people will see it in theatres again to refresh their memories of what the hell even happened in that movie. And they'll have forgotten everything about it an hour after they leave the theatre.

Thank goodness that Endgame beat out that boring ass Avatar. Avatar was visually stunning, but it was basically a hybrid of Pocahontas, Fern Gully, and Dances with Wolves. Honestly I don't even really think it works as visual spectacle? Like, I dunno, maybe it's just me or maybe it's because I watched it at home, but while the special effects are very impressive, I don't at all like the movie's actual art design. I imagine that's by design. A big part of Avatar making so much money is that the only way to really see the movie is in IMAX and 3D. First time I ever saw it was at home, and it passed right through me.

The next time I watched it was in bed with my girlfriend on a 16-inch laptop, and I was so bored I fell asleep three times. It's astounding at just how shallow the movie is.

I know what you mean. Most of Thanos' minions are swarms of aliens: the Chitauri, the Leviathans, the Outriders, the Sakaarans, those gorilla-looking things. While the Avengers have very distinct looks, so much of the end fight was padded with anonymous Asgardians, Reavers, and magicians to add to the heroes' roster depth. The whole mess of armies clashing was neat to look at for the sheer volume of bodies, but the last act also takes place in the rubble of the Avengers' base, which wasn't the most interesting environment at which to look, and something the Marvel movies have struggled with for a while: the big empty spaces of the fields of Wakanda (twice), an airport taxi zone, the ruins of Sokovia, a loading dock, an aircraft carrier, etc.

I mean he got a 22 year reign as the king of the box office one way or another and still has 2 of the Top 3 highest grossing films of all time, so, I don’t think he particularly cares too much?

Avatar might be the worst film to ever do so well in the box office. Hated it For being so shallow and derivative.

Maybe, but if he was that secure, he'd likely not make those comments in the first place. Then you add the sexist bent to his Wonder Woman comments and it seems like he has a few issues going on. Which, hey, everyone has their foibles and their issues but his are a bit more prominent due to his success.

It's been very exciting to track Endgame's box office for months.
I started paying attention to box office tracking in 2002, when Titanic was still king. Avatar in 2009 was one of those crazy runs to experience, like Force Awakens in the US market. Endgame's opening weekend was utterly, completely ridiculous in the most awesome way. It was always going to be a different beast than Avatar, relying on a big sprint and holding on, but that first week was so huge it still managed to pass it.
What beautiful insanity this whole MCU project has been. I've loved it.
And the ride goes on...

Bbbbbbut... superhero fatigue! MCU burn out, guys!
I love this. James Cameron, Steven Spielberg, and every other old out of touch fart have to sit back and eat crow.

He re-released Titanic in 2012 to make sure The Avengers wouldn't surpass it as the 2nd highest grossing film ever...he cares.

Now while I am happy Avengers did take the top, I will say the business practice Disney did with that “re-release” of Endgame with those lameass extras as part of their attempt to get here was pretty damn shitty, not gonna lie. Especially since when looking at the numbers they probably would have gotten here without that. They probably wouldn’t have gotten to wave their dick at Comic-Con but, still.

Don’t see what was so shitty about it. People knew what to expect going in and all it did was cost them a movie ticket. Not a single person was harmed.

Also wasn’t exactly like a) it was promoted very well and b) really made much difference box office wise considering that the movie was still in theaters most places by the time the re-release came out so they might as well had just switched reels for all the difference it made. I mean, it got there but it didn’t race up there if that makes sense.

And it bears repeating that Avatar made an additional $30 million from a re-release which added about 10 minutes to an already bloated runtime. If you deduct both movies' re-releases, Endgame would have passed Avatar about six weeks ago.

Probably would have done it even sooner had Disney not thrown Aladdin in just mere weeks after Endgame came out, kicking Endgame out of a lot of the premium screenings at many theatres.

Two things:
1. Infinity War was the far superior movie in every way.
2. Doesn’t a dollar go a lot further even ten years ago then it does now? Given inflation isn’t Gone With the Wind still the highest grossing movie of all time, but how do these two measure up?

Avatar sucked and I’m glad it was dethroned by a quality production. Looking forward to the two sequels worth of Cameron being like “come on, you guys loved this film.... right....?”
