What are some songs that are part great while the rest sucks.
My inspiration for this thread was listening to the song Obsession by Animotion. You have the greatest intro to a tune ever...and then the godawful song kicks in.

Honestly?
Hey Jude. Great song that overstays it's welcome.

Honestly? Hey Jude. Great song that overstays it's welcome. In that same vein, Blur's hit song Tender. About twice as long as it needs to be.

So many Devin Townsend songs go along swimmingly until he throws in a bridge that totally kills the vibe.

It's a shame that the opening riff for this song couldn't stick around and had to go home early. Baby Shark is the current king of annoying songs, yes, but the first 7 seconds before the vocals begin, that's something I'd want to bottle and sell. Also, I would think that even people who liked "Down with the Sickness" by Disturbed would say "OK but why that last verse though?"

I literally skip the end of "Down With the Sickness" every time I listen to it. Also, maybe an unpopular opinion, but "In the Air Tonight" is a good song, but it just takes too long to get to the part everyone remembers (the drum fill). It spends a little too long building up to a short moment.

I love the opening riff to "Owner of a Lonely Heart", but the rest of the song is too bland for me. Unfortunately, it's their most famous song, so it's the only one that gets airplay.

Dream Theater's "A Nightmare To Remember" is 2/3 a great song. The opening third about the car accident is a great rocker, and it slows into a touching segment about the hospital and recovery. It's a shame it ends with a metal mish-mash and Portnoy shouting "ThankGodEveryBodyWasAllRightBLAAAAAAAARGH!"
Frankly, a lot of Dream Theater's music is like that... 90% awesome with one piece, one segment, one element that goes too far.

The first minute and a half of "Thank You" by Dido is some fantastic shit.
And then it gets to the chorus.

Slipknot's Wait and Bleed would be better without the growling, shouting bits.

Slipknot's Wait and Bleed would be better without the growling, shouting bits. I knew I'd heard this somewhere. Probably one of those classic Kazaa downloads.

Queen's "Princes Of The Universe", the first lyrics and the kick-ass opening riff and then...nothing compared to that beginning.

I love Ozzy, but the intro to Crazy Train is significantly better than the rest of the song.
Also, I dig the bridge to Blondie's One Way or Another, but the rest of the song is just kinda okay.

Slipknot's Wait and Bleed would be better without the growling, shouting bits. No. It's actually much worse.

Something In The Air by Thunderclap Newman is a great song until it gets to that weird, clown music bit at the end. An unwelcome reminder that it was written when everyone was on LSD.

The middle of Korn's "Freak on a Leash", when the dude yells "GO!" and then they play the heavy riff for a few bars. That's the entirety of what I like from Korn.

Any Lacuna Coil song goes downhill as soon as the male starts singing.
Completely spoils it.
Nightwish have the same issue to a lesser degree (Male vocals kill I Wish I Had An Angel) but their male vocals do suit some of their songs, Ghost River the male vocals work well.

The Limp Bizkit cover of "behind blue eyes" is honestly better The Who's version, but that "L-I-M-P" shit in the middle ruins it.
