At this rate its a race between Star Citizen and Avatar about which bloated and increasingly forgotten franchise gets delayed more.

Considering how extensive Pandora is at Animal Kingdom, they are all in on this franchise

Have they even been filmed? If not, just forget about it. Avatar was a tech showcase, and little more than that. No one is clamouring for sequels, surely?

It's a money sinkhole, only it's now Disney's problem.
The original Avatar made lots of money but does anyone remember the plot or the purpose? It was just scenery porn.
It's also going to sound repetitive, from a narrative perspective. Stephen Lang stole the show as the main villain, but they're bringing him back as a clone of the original Quatrich. And, supposedly, it'll be that he's going to be the overarching villain in each film, meaning another clone will replace the previous one that gets killed. That defeats the purpose of having established a universe if you just comically recycle the same bad guy like it's a mechanical process.

Whether it is a money sinkhole certainly remains to be seen.
The Avatar rides have some of the longest lines at Disney, but that is more due to one of the rides being COMPLETELY f***ING AWESOME (Flight of Passage) and the other one having the most impressive animatronic in the park.

Moreover, in an era of Endgame and Infinity War where exotic worlds can be created and have characters people actually care about, what appeal exactly (other than slightly better scenery porn) do Avatar sequels have?

That's due to the hard work of the Imagineers utilizing technology to create the most invested rides possible. The only time you'll see them make a bad ride is when you cut their budget and force absurd demands on them (*cough*Superstar Limo*cough*).

Uh... ... Furries? It'll also be attempting to rekindle something that, aside from amusement attractions, is a cold commodity and expecting people to go to it. This being Disney, each film can make $450 million easily with an intense marketing campaign, but I can't figure out this value.

And Avatar 2's place in 2020 is taken up by West Side Story and Cruella I dunno what's more infuriating: people hanging onto this franchise that lucked its way (until now) into an all-time box office record? Or....yet another remake (but hey, A Star is Born made money, what other musicals can we resuscitate?) and Disney proving they DIDN'T learn their lesson from Maleficent? Can't wait to see how the animal killer was misunderstood all along. What scares me is, given the safe mediocrity of the live action Disney we've gotten and will get, people might WELCOME another reinvention of the wheel. No matter how inept Disney was at shades of grey the first time.

Is George R.R. Martin co-writing it or something? I mean, James Cameron is pretty much the George R.R. Martin of film when you think about it.

I feel about Avengers End Game that most feel about Avatar. And I feel about Avatar what most feel about End Game. Can I have these sequels ASAP?

I don't get why Avatar gets as much hate as it does. It was a great movie at its time and still a decent film. If I had to guess, I would say it is more of a hate for James Cameron than the movie itself because the guy just comes off as full of himself in interviews. But up until recently, he was responsible for the top two highest grossing movies of all time, so perhaps the arrogance is deserved.
