So this is on Hulu. Giving it a re-watch for the first probably since it came out. I remember everyone thinkin it was bad, but honestly it's fine. It's not good, but as far as 2 hour actioners go it's alright. Kinda feel the same way about the sequel. That 2nd one was better and certainly more faithful, but even it I wouldn't call good.
But this one, as far as a 2 hour action movie before bed..it's ok.
Granted apart from some of the characters having the same names and looks it doesn't have much to do with the source (which again is something the sequel does better). Strip that away and it could be any generic sci fi actioner.
The CGI is really wonky in spots.
Making everyone related in some form or fashion was corny as Hell.
Commander being a weird amalgam of who he's supposed to be and Dr Mindbender was an odd choice.
But despite all that, it's serviceable.
It's a ham sandwich. You aren't going to rave about having one for lunch, but it tastes ok and will fill ya up alright.

Considering Channing Tatum apparently hated working on this movie, it’s unsurprising that it seems like he was sleepwalking through his scenes.

Watched it in the cinema with my nephews, it was perfectly enjoyable nonsense. There were some terrible moments (a plane that takes voice commands but only in Celtic?) but overall, harmless fun. I preferred it to the sequel though.

I don't quite understand why this was considered terrible but Transformers was loved. They seemed about equal in Hollywoodification of the source material. I guess less bad acting and more cgi robots goes a long ways.

It's a so-so action movie that looks as though it had the G.I. Joe license copy and pasted onto the shooting script about five minutes before filming started.

On opening day, I was beyond happy, in like every part of my soul, that there was finally a GI Joe movie. It was.....fine. .......yeah.... Haven't watched it in years, and that's.......that's also fine. Retaliation was better, and more faithful, but even then.......I don't clamor to watch this one much either. I think I just figured out when I stopped caring about seeing movies in theatres and movies in general.

I was most put out by Baroness not using a cartoony Eastern European/Russian/wherever she was sposed to be from voice haha.
Honestly, the only great JOE movie experience is the first minute and a half of the animated at the Statue of Liberty.
