Obviously rap is still a big musical genre, but I've noticed that almost all of the popular rap artists at the moment are all solo acts. They may have other rappers appear on their songs, but there's little to no groups consisting of several rappers out there (maybe there are more in the underground, I dont know). Why is this?

It probably has a lot to do with greed and ego. I think more people would rather have their own name on their property and make the most money that they can rather than rely on others to help make them successful and have to divide their profits.

Groups and crews still exist. It's that business isn't the same like it used to be in the American market. And it's hard enough to make it to a level of mainstream success when you have to invest in several people in one group as opposed to one artist who can have all of the resources put into his/her career. I also urge people to look into the history of an artist or group and their affiliations. A lot of questions will be answered.

There's this awesome rap group called Alla Xul Elu (or AXE for short) that I like, though admittedly they aren't for everyone.
Also, there's the Backburner Crew which is kinda like a Canadian Wu Tang Clan.

Another trend lately is collectives that collaborate as groups, but also do their own things as solo artists. Like A$AP Mob or Odd Future.

Yeah, I think overarching collectives have sort of taken the place of groups. Even more so, labels are sort of operating as groups, like TDE and OVO. Basically, there's more Bad Boys and Death Rows than Wu-Tangs, nowadays. Brockhampton is a straight up rap group.

Run the Jewels. Are my jam. So they are still around not as many as there used to be. Started listening to them a couple years ago, and they are legit. Their videos are great too. "Nobody Speak" is a beast of a track.

So where's all the Mad Rappers at? It's like a jungle in this habitat. But all you savage cats know that I was strapped with gats while you were cuddling a cabbage patch. Oh, and Ice Cube answered this in the Wall: "It's more money in the solo play," Ice Cube, once a member of N.W.A, told the Wall Street Journal in 2015. "The royalties don't go up for how many members you have in the group." www.wsj.com/articles/since-straight-outta-compton-hip-hop-has-lost-its-crews-1439309525
