I'm watching all the guys seasons on YouTube for the first time. Don't even play video games but I find the guy overall very entertaining. Thoughts?

He's my go-to background noise whenever I just need to put something on. Love the guy.

He is indeed very funny.
For many long-time viewers though, his shtick simply just started to get stale, because most of his videos are of a similar formula (F-words, poop jokes, then he screams a lot and destroys stuff). But most of his videos, even the newer ones, are still vids I enjoy.

Only criticism is the poop jokes are a bit much for me sometimes haha He thankfully tones down on them in later episodes. But yeah, big fan. His videos are hit more than miss and he seems to be a genuinely good guy unlike seemingly most e-celebs.

But most of his videos, even the newer ones, are still vids I enjoy. As a person that's watched all of the AVGN videos in order numerous times. He definitely had a creative valley at one point and it was obvious to see. Episodes around the Lester the Unlikely timeline was when you can tell he was burnt out. He kinda snapped out of the ditch after production of the movie. Which might have had something to do with the burn out but yeah there's ups and downs. His action 52 episodes are pretty masterclass in setting the standard for internet game reviewers. Keep him away from Lloyd Kaufman for the rest of his life though. Oh my god that's one I always skip. Edit: Okay I'm looking at his episodes now. Yeah the mediocre episodes are all kinda clustered around eachother. There's some gems mixed in but Day Dreamin Davey, Lester the Unlikely, Kid Kool, Bible Games 3 and even Spielberg games are sorta blah episodes and it's the same time period. He didn't snap out of the funk totally and get back into a groove until the Wish List episodes which are fantastic.

Love the older videos but I think he’s really been having a Renaissance lately.

James is terrific. I've been watching his Nerd videos since the beginning and a lot of the other videos he's made, too. He's a really nice guy, too.

One of the very few Youtube acts that still just as good as when he started if not better. James is great.

Love his videos, especially when he reviews any video game console or accessory.

It’s kinda funny how he’s one of the few gaming YouTubers who isn’t an asshole, and his most iconic character is that of an asshole gamer.

It’s kinda funny how he’s one of the few gaming YouTubers who isn’t an asshole, and his most iconic character is that of an asshole gamer. I think it helps that he's older than many of them. He just doesn't put himself out there as intimately and seems content to keep to himself. I think the only asshole thing I can really think of him doing was the poorly thought out handling of the Ghostbusters stuff, but with all of the toxicity that surrounded that movie, it seems kinda quaint by comparison. Being a little too self-important isn't exactly the most damning of sins. Mike Matei seems to be the one who interacts with the fans more directly and, uhhh, ain't always great.

Love his videos, especially when he reviews any video game console or accessory. When he reviewed The Power Glove I remember thinking "Oh my god, I forgot how awful that thing was. It just didn't work...".

He's awesome, Mike is hit or miss (totally different in terms of pwrsonality, and Ryan is the most bland member of his "crew" I've ever seen.
What the heck ever happened to Bootsy anyhow?

I actually discovered him via his Monster Madness videos. I had heard of Angry Video Game Nerd, but didn't know what it was all about. Once I realized that AVGN and the Monster Madness guy were one and the same, I started checking out all his stuff - not just AVGN, but also Board James, James & Mike Mondays, and the rest - and I was hooked. The poop jokes are a bit much, and Mike is annoying as hell, but the good outweighs the bad. My girlfriend loves his stuff, too. She watches Dream Phone and Mimal the Elf almost monthly.

I'm a fan. He's an excellent reviewer. He does the comedy stuff well, but when he does a straight review its also great. Like his Sword Quest review.
Plumbers Dont Wear ties is his best work.
Plus, in the age of douchey, attention seeking youtubers, James always comes across as a great guy.

the Angry Video Game Nerd? that guy is... instead of spending his time playing newer good video games, all he does is play old bad video games like a dumb... and then he does skits doing stuff like beating up Bugs Bunny and dressing up as Batman, which ends up making him look like a jack... all the while he keeps pulling these disgusting outrageous phrases out of his... www.youtube.com/watch?v=c2ia8T4E2Mcin fact, i think there is one word that perfectly sums up the Angry Video Game Nerd:

I started watching him when he was the Angry Nintendo Nerd. I also met him at a meet and greet at Digital Press in Clifton, NJ and he was a really nice guy. Even signed my friend's copy of some garbage 3DO game lol.
Just wish Castlevania 2 didn't get such a bad rap because of his videos. It's a perfectly alright game and the first real attempt at the "Metroidvania" style of game. It just had a lot of quirks and wasn't as good as CV1 or especially CV3.

For my money, his review of Hong Kong '97 is one of the funniest things I've ever seen on the internet.

I remember being amazed at his "behind the scenes" video. Like, I totally bought that he was just some guy making cheap videos in his basement. He pulls the camera back and shows that he's got a multi-camera set-up, full lighting rig, sound recording everywhere, and a ton of editing technology. Plus he learns, practices, and memorizes all his lines and doesn't just read cue cards. Hell, she showed off some of the ways that he digitally edits stuff like removing background material that was accidentally left in the shot.
This was, iir, all before he started doing stuff like Mega Death Christ and the like. It was amazing to see how much production went into making the AVGN series just look like a dude with a camera in his basement.
