I started watching him when he was the Angry Nintendo Nerd. I also met him at a meet and greet at Digital Press in Clifton, NJ and he was a really nice guy. Even signed my friend's copy of some garbage 3DO game lol. Just wish Castlevania 2 didn't get such a bad rap because of his videos. It's a perfectly alright game and the first real attempt at the "Metroidvania" style of game. It just had a lot of quirks and wasn't as good as CV1 or especially CV3. Totally agree. Castlevania 2 is a great game that gets trashed now because of that episode. Even saw people complaining it was on the anniversary collection because it is such a “bad” game Really hate that episode now. Rested s false narrative about one of the better NES games that had awesome ambition and a great soundtrack. My entire problem with Castlevania 2 is how cryptic (and wrong) a lot of the clues are and some of the things you have to do are things you'd never think to do. That's why I prefer the first or third games.

Always like his stuff. His content just as James where he discusses movies, e.g.the recent Dracula episode, is what I enjoy most The Rental Reviews are pretty good and the choice of movies up for discussion are well-picked.

My go-to background noise to drift off to sleep is AVGN. My most watched are Action 52 (I can't tell you why but I always lose it at "Alfred N the fettuc") and Bible Games. Noah, man. Nobody f---- with him. Not even Chuck Norris.

It isn't really his fault, but I hate all the kids who went on YouTube to imitate him (and I don't just mean Chris Bores / Irate Gamer- I mean the 12 year olds who made even worse videos where they literally repeat the same lines from James' videos with a shaky camera aimed at the TV screen). There used to be a guy on YouTube who would make fun of these kids and it was hilarious. a few years ago, i was looking stuff up on youtube about Jurassic Park for SNES, because its one of my all time favorite games, and came across a review, so i watched it. turns out it was made by some twelve year old. this was how well done it was: he powers on the game (a whopping three seconds later) "It still hasn't loaded? Oh God, I'm so bored! What are they doing, building the game as you play? Ugh! This is the crappiest music ever made! I'd rather let someone fart in my ear than listen to this poop music!" the game starts and the genius immediately gets hurt walks straight into an electric fence, then starts flipping out and bitching because how the hell was he supposed to know you can't touch the fence (other than the multiple "Danger" signs, the "High Voltage" symbol, and the fact it says "NO!" in big letters on the fence). the Angry Video Game Nerd Outraged Electronic Entertainment Geek then proceeds to swiftly head to a specific location to pick up a rocket launcher and expertly kill multiple velociraptors just as they pop out of the bushes, before returning to the fence, going to the gate control, and using the rockets to open it with one hit. so the little shit clearly has played the game before and knew full well walking into the fence would hurt you, but did it anyway because dammit he's mad as hell and he's not going to take this anymore! it was obvious that the only person more miserable than him at that moment was me for having to listen to that bullshit, so i did what he should've done and turned it off

I've been watching a lot of his older episodes lately. Dude's hilarious. The NES Accessories episode is one of my favorites.

I'd like to see a full-length ep on the 3D0 and CD-I systems. He did go over them somewhat in his reviews for Plumbers dont Wear Ties and the Mario/Zelda CD-I games, but i;d like to see him go over the other crappy titles like he did for the Sega CD, Jaguar, Intellivision, and Colecovision episodes (for that matter, I'd also like to see eps on other obscure systems like the NEO-GEO, Vectrex, and the Atari 7800).

Honestly, an innovator in terms of social media. One of the first youtubers, and remains one of the biggest and most influential. I give him all the credit in the world fo managing to stay relevant and entertaining after ten years. Hard to do in social media.

Yeah if he was ever going to implode it would have been during the height of the Ghostbusters remake when he put on that video about how he refused to watch it. He got put through the ringer on social media from high profile people like Patton Oswalt and it got picked up by mainstream outlets but he just kept his head down and didn't make an ass out himself like every other YouTuber put in similar situations and has seemed to be fine since then.

I love his stuff, but I'm not a big fan of most of the ones where he has a guest.
His movie reviews out-of-character are even better, and I'm seriously jealous of the replica video rental store he has.

Yeah, he's got excessive swearing and defecation jokes, but he doesnt do any jokes that could be construed as sexist or racist, he never goes political, and even his sex jokes are rare.

As a ColecoVision owner, I can say that he did not do the system true justice when he covered it, though he admitted as much. - The ColecoVision was significantly more powerful as a system than the competition. For example, he pointed out how ridiculous the Intellivision sounded when using the Intellivoice module, but ColecoVision didn't need a damned add-on to do actual speech and it sounded better (Squish'em featuring Sam, an addictively fun game, is a prime example of this ability). - Several of the games were actually really good. I still would play The Heist if I could find a copy of it. - He only covered the easiest setting of the Smurf game. The jumps get harder and there are enemies in harder settings. - He mentioned the Atari add-on, but maybe he did not realize that because the ColecoVision was a more powerful system it tended to play the Atari games better than an Atari did. This was particularly obvious in some of the more graphically demanding Atari games like River Raid, which experienced the frequent lag on the Atari 2600 when too many things were on screen (especially when you refueled your jet) but was perfectly playable on ColecoVision.

The amount of shit he got for saying “I’m not interested in seeing this movie” was f***ing ridiculously insane.

The bit in the Roger Rabbit video where he "calls" Jessica Rabbit is seriously uncomfortable to watch. It hasn't been as bad in recent years, but he could get pretty rough in how he referenced women.

I'm not a fan of special guests on any podcast or show, but I thought Macauley Caulkin on AVGN was great. Very fun, likeable guy.
