3. I worry a whole lotta guys are going to get lost in the shuffle. It's great the roster is diverse (I love that they have an exotico), but they won't have time to run angles for a third of these people. The awesome variety of the roster (and the variety they showed off in the matches last night) will be completely wasted if all they have time for is two main event angles at a time and that's it. My counter point to this is that they have a two hour show, right? WWE at one point pretty much for all intents and purposes had the same (the C and lower shows like Heat, Jakked, Metal weren't necessary viewing and often times during the time frame I'm about to discuss had lower card guy vs jobber, or even sometimes jobber vs jobber matches on them) with an even bigger roster and they managed to give pretty much everyone at least something to do. Say what you will about the quality of it (like during Russo's days at the helm), but for a near five years it was done. I feel like AEW are clever enough to give everyone at least something, it may not always be big, and it may not always get weekly updates to it, but I'd be really surprised if something like modern WWE's handling of its talent (where there's about five people across two major shows that have stuff going on, a wiiiiiiiiiiiide gulf, and then everybody else farting about) happens.

One negative that I didn't address are the lower midcard. Like, a good amount of those guys were lame as hell and were just generic. Like mid-late 00s WWE level generic. I hope they get past that because if you look at WWE's lower midcard they stand out a bit more, they've got personality. Luckily it's the first show so it's no biggie but that's just one area of improvement they need to work on. They need to turn some of those lame guys into real dudes.
Oh, Orange Cassidy is dope. In my 5 standouts in the battle royal yesterday I didn't include him but I saw the clip a few more times and watched some random matches of his and I'm fully on board lmao.

Yeah those battle royal guys and yeah SCU seemed idk, they're great with what they do in the ring but they don't have any personality the same as some of those guys in that battle royal. I get what they represent but I need more than that. I'm glad you brought them up because I literally forgot about them and that match for as dope as it was.

Most of those guys do stand out a good deal when they're given time, but in stuff like a battle royale or a first impressions match it might not seem that way Sonny Kiss has had a ton of good things said about them, but they weren't really present in the BR. They need a match to showcase their stuff. Luchasaurus absolutely needs to be signed and either wreck shit or be a big heavy for someone else. Cassidy is one of the best things going today Janela is really fun in hardcore matches and stands out with some of the spots he's able to do Stunt, Jungle Boy and Pillman Jr. are literal babies, but both have a shit ton of upside. I don't think Jr. is gonna have an trouble finding a gimmick. Stunt's this gens Spike Dudley, he's gonna be great, especially if they get his brother Logan Stunt involved too, good tag team. Havoc is self explanitory as is MJF, Havoc's a death match veteran and he can cut great promos and I could see him and Mox having a great program, MJF could make anything work and I mean anything with how good of a promo he is. Kip, Sammy, Private Party and Cutler definitely need more to grasp onto. But they got time. Spears might just take his TEN gimmick over if he's signed full with AEW, might as well. Smash Bros needed to have commentary sell them harder than they did, felt bad, but they'll be fine, that heartless gimmick's gonna get over huge. Overall I can see how some guys don't look like they stand out at first glance and need more seasoning, but I have no doubt they will find it. And the wrestling is definitely gonna help as they develop and show that to the world imo. I'm ready for it.

Scorpio needs to find his personality the most out of the SCU because Daniels and Kaz have shown they can turn shit on in an instant for a long time, Daniels especially, so I'm not too worried about them, it's gonna be all about getting them a big time feud imo to establish their goals.

I think a lot of them need to change how they look physically because you have the looks, their names, their styles, I mean it's similar with a lot of them. Sure, they're not horrible but I don't like the fact that coming out of that thing not many stood out for me.

Page, he's going to be an AEW cornerstone, multiple-time champion, he's that guy. Janela, he's just funny to me lol. But a lot of these other dudes just don't have that thing that separates them yet.

This whole “referee discretion” shit also needs to be sorted out. They learned on that a good amount

But if I'm right they got till October for the TV to start so they got plenty of time to bulk up and develop characters on the monthly PPVs they got till TV.

(Brandi getting carted away kicking and screaming while the fans cheered was NOT a good look) I mean, she was just being harmlessly carried away by one of the most wholesome dudes in the business (okay, stalker storyline aside I'll grant) to keep her from cheating. I feel like in context there was no issue with that. Oh, it coulda been a kabiiiiiillion times worse, for sure. But there's something real skeezy for me watching this strong businesslady character get her comeuppance by someone literally carrying her away like a child.

There are posts in this thread that assert that SCU don't have personalities, making this the WORST thread I've ever posted in.

I get what you're saying, but she did just spear Dustin. And the spear in itself was surprising and not something you usually see a woman do to a man, even in a cheap shot attack. It would probably have been better if the female referee had come out and Brandi agreed to go. Actually obeying the officials would practically be innovative for a wrestling company.

Every match was different and something for everyone. You wanted tag teams, there was BFs vs Evans/Angelico. You wanted women there was two female matches with talent and looks beyond generic pretty girl. You wanted old school there was Cody vs Dustin. You wanted high flying nonstop pace there was The Bucks vs Lucha Bros
No match was the same

The issue with SCU is that it's two guys with amazing personalities and tenure and a career and body of work that's notable, plus the ability to turn shit into gold, being massively entertaining even as TNA slipped into its living death period... and Scorpio Sky. Like, he was so much the odd man out. How long have they been doing this? I know nothing about the SCU gimmick as compared to Bad Influence. I mean, she was just being harmlessly carried away by one of the most wholesome dudes in the business (okay, stalker storyline aside I'll grant) to keep her from cheating. Yeah, me and the people watching with me said this at the time. JR saying she needed to go and 'simmer down' didn't help.

SCU's been around for awhile now, at least the past couple of years. Sky isn't quite the promo that Daniels and Kazarian are, but he's got plenty of personality...hell, he's got some of the best natural comedic timing on Being the Elite.
