Thread title is simple enough. Who do you think will, or should, beat Taven for the ROH championship?
I'm not unsympathetic to Taven and ROH's desire to put the title on him. They clearly need to elevate people to the main event, but it's just kind of underwhelming, especially since he won the title off of Lethal without pinning or submitting him after his entirely too long reign, and Marty was just a much more interesting act. He also was put in an unenviable position by winning the title the same night Okada won his, so it just entirely outshone him. They're making some decent moves with him in the aftermath of that, but it was a pretty weak start.
I do think this should be a somewhat short reign. Thinking of the current roster, you can easily see some of the problems that came with Lethal's stranglehold on the belt. The are only three former champions on the roster: Lethal, Jay Briscoe, and Dalton Castle. Everyone else has left, and none of the three are good options for the next champion. It definitely ought to be someone new.
So, who do you go with? PCO has been an option some have presented, and he could be a fun transitional champion, since you have that comeback story and how over he's been. Still, he wouldn't do much to help the problem of there not being many stars for the long term due to his age.
Rush, obviously, has been pushed hard, but it feels too soon.
Probably the best option, and my personal favorite guy in ROH, anyway, would be Jeff Cobb. Very versatile, a ton of skill and presence, and plenty credible with the audience, he's got everything you could want in a champion. The only real fear is that he is almost too good, and could leave on them. Then again, that has always been ROH's fear, isn't it? They get so worried about people leaving on them that they sit on hot acts and either way for them to leave or to cool down entirely. Only then do they make any sort of move.
Who do would you pick? One of these three, or someone else entirely?

I can very easily see it being Cobb. They’ve strapped a rocket to the guy and even the losses he’s had has been against genuine world class talent so that’d be a great pick.
Now will they do it or go the good ol’ Tyler Black route? History doesn’t show a reason not for it to be the latter.

I'm relatively certain they're just going to give it back to Lethal, particularly since they seem to be dragging their feet on revisiting that whole draw thing.

That sounds boring as hell, especially with how absurdly long he has held the title in combined length. So that's probably what will happen.

I'll agree on Cobb; he's got the credibility, he's been booked strong, they've thrown a little bit of adversity at him (in this case going from having the NEVER and TV titles to losing both), so just give him the proper ramp up to challenging for the big belt and pull the trigger at some point, let's say, this summer. Make it coincide with Rush trying to challenge, too, maybe have Rush get angry that he's undefeated yet Cobb got a crack before he did, and use that to build a rivalry all the way to Final Battle.
I really do want ROH to get that scene right, since I like so many guys on their roster, but they have to just not be afraid to see a character/title arc like that through without dragging it out too far or allowing anyone to get cooled off.

PCO or Brody King. Villain Enterprises isn't long for the world if Marty leaves, so let an unexpected title victory be the catalyst for a split, and Marty being sent off to AEW by his new set of former friends.
It gets a few extra main events out of Marty, and elevates potentially both of PCO and King if done right.

I'm relatively certain they're just going to give it back to Lethal, particularly since they seem to be dragging their feet on revisiting that whole draw thing. This sounds like the most logical choice. If ROH was willing to take a risk, they would have had Scrull win at the Supercard, and drop it next month at Best in the World to Taven, giving people a reason to tune in to what is normally ROH's biggest show of the year. However, this is Ring of Honor. Ring of Honor doesn't take risks. So, they'll put the belt back on Jay Lethal, and Lethal will be champion for two years.

Sadly, this will likely happen. Or Jay Briscoe because reasons? What reasons?

I don’t think that it matters, because once AEW takes off ROH is dead in the water. They’re barely treading water now with HHH’s super Indy, once AEW starts on tv no one will want to go there when they could go to NXT/WWE or AEW.

RUSH. the contract he signed is only for a year, they're pushing him harder out of the gate than anyone since Morishima, and they've repeatedly pointed out he has a history with Taven going back to CMLL:

ROH is going to live for as long as Sinclair owns TV networks. It's cheap original programming with a built-in audience

I had forgotten Juice as an option, but he'd make sense, especially since he's going to be working ROH more this year, apparently.
Colt Cabana isn't a terrible option, himself. Sure, he's aging, but he's also popular and well-liked.
Brother Ray is... far from my first choice, but I'd *still* take him over Jay Lethal having it again anytime this year.

It should be either Cobb or Rush, but this is ROH so it'll be someone who should have won the title 2 years ago...Castle again?

Jeff Cobb
I can see him winning it at Best in the World or All Star Extravaganza
Possible exception is Taven dropping to PCO with how hot he's been and then Cobb beats PCO at one of those events.
then I think Cobb vs Rush is a shoe-in for Final Battle.
Rush, who then faces Flip gordon at next year's anniversary show.
If the winner doesn't re-sign, the eventually lose to Brody King and then Brody successfully defends against PCO.
