For those who follow puroresu in a big way, how is Daichi? Obviously, his dad was a real big deal, and was one of the "Three Musketeers" long with Chono and Mutoh who took NJPW by storm until his untimely death. It was no surprise, then, that when Daichi debuted, Mutoh and Chono lent their support to him.
What is a bit more confusing is that Daichi has not wrestled for New Japan in any capacity yet. He's 27, so he's certainly got time, but you'd think it'd be a no brainer. Would he be a poor fit? Is he waiting until he's more seasoned? Or is there some other reasoning for this having not happened yet?

Daichi debuted with ZERO1 and seemed to be their future ace apparent. Then he left to IGF because I guess Inoki pulled an Inoki on him. Then he left that as well to join BJW where he's a mainstay of the non-Deathmatch crew's midcard (which is to say, he's not on the level with Daisuke Sekimoto, Yuji Okabayashi and the like).
He's good, but he's also clearly not his dad (as in: not as good, not as charismatic) and, aside from Shibata, NJPW isn't that keen on 2nd and 3rd gen wrestlers.
That said, yeah, Daichi would probably have a job with New Japan if he wanted back in his first few years. Nowadays I feel he's cozy in Big Japan and doesn't really want to go beyond that and there's not much reason for New Japan to jump through hoops to get him. If he becomes a freelancer he might get some work with NJPW in a heel faction I feel.

From the little I’ve seen I like him. It’s neat that he has a unique style and look separate from his father (outside of using his music, but Charlotte Flair also does the same). No, he doesn’t have his dad’s presence but he’s also working for a different audience. I expect he’ll evolve over time, especially depending on who he works with.

I remember watching his first few matches and thinking that he was going to be a really big deal. He had an aura about him and charisma as well, even if he was green as grass on the ring. He definitively took a step back in IGF from his ZERO1 days (which isn't too surprising, I guess), which is why I don't have the best of outlooks on him. But he will be around for a long time and might blossom into something. Or he'll become another Mitsuo Momota which isn't bad also.

His first few matches involved some legitimate GOAT names too, who would have worked to make him look good as well. I haven't seen him without that, but it's likely that helped that aura (which I felt too).

I only watched his rookie year and he was just a skinny kid nothing spectacular. Steve Corino wrote about him finally being the one who would end the Japanese wrestling recession, lol that didn’t materialize.
